Paint clear coat peeling
Paint clear coat peeling
Hi everybody,
i am getting really concerned with the clear coat on my Civic coupe 09. The clear coat is peeling on my the edges of my door, but especially on the trunk lid and quarter panel. It has gotten worst since i purchased the car second hand about 2 years ago.
Now its at the point where the metal is visible and its really unpleasant to look at.
I know there was a recall on the paint, however I was past the recall once I purchased my car. I contacted a local Honda dealer and after a long process they verified my VIN and said that it was done on my car by the previous owner. On top of that the clear is peeling off where they said they paint (which mean it was badly done!).
I would want to know if anyone had a similar experience with this issue and if its possible to get the cost of repair covered by honda as it is a defect on Honda part...
Thanks !!

Re: Paint clear coat peeling
Sounds like you need a paint job.
If the car is now beyond the terms of the warranty extension (not recall), it is no longer Hondas responsibility nor obligation.
If you can figure out who did any repaint/clear work, maybe go talk to them....but I'd expect they also have a limited warranty on their work.

Re: Paint clear coat peeling
I can't tell you what a paint job should cost (paint and body isn't my bag)....visit bodyshops, get several estimates.
You get what you pay for, so if you want it to look good, you don't want cheap.
If you want to survey your local peoples opinions on local painters, ask the people who care about GREAT paint.
My town might have 30 bodyshops or so, but I would only trust maybe 5 of those to do what I consider excellent work.
