Transmission/Brake/Power Steering Fluids change frequency
Hi, I have a 2010 Civic - 98,000 miles in exactly 7 years now. at 70K miles, I did a flush of the power steering, transmission and brake fluids. now, as the car is closer to 100K miles, my mechanic is recommending all those same things again, and spark plugs replacement in addition to the above. I have driven 14K miles/year so far and i am looking at 17K per year going ahead. How frequently do you think should i do these flushes? Thanks!

Your mechanic doesn't know your maintenance history? Good thing you keep track and can call them on BS.
Our shop recommends ATF drain and fill every 30k...because we want to avoid the problems that can crop up when this service is ignored too long.
This is not a flush.
Brake fluid every 3 years (that's in your owners manual)
Spark plugs replace every 100k (maint minder item #4).
Coolant at 10 years/100k/MM#5 (see your owners manual, it might actually say 120k), then every 5yr/50k/MM#5 thereafter.
Power steering.....meh. If Honda fluid was used the last time, it's probably good for another 100k.

Thanks for the reply! I should have been more clear. i have moved 4 times to 4 different states in 7 years so have not been able to keep the same mechanic. I will use your recommendations as well as refer to the manual! Thanks again!

A lot of the service stuff can't be easily determined just by looking or without some work.....
Air filters might be easy to check, but much of the other stuff isn't.
If I see no service history on a customer work order, I will write things like "question maintenance history", or "no service history here, question maintenance due" and write a list of things that might be due at a given age or mileage.
It's then up to the service advisor and the cars owner to figure out what's been done already, and what's needed or not needed.
