Hello ~ I've been generally taking my 2006 Civic into the dealership to be repaired but it costs me an arm and a leg. The last straw was today when I took it in for a B12 maintenance which cost me $340 just for the inspection and now they want to charge me $700+ for new brakes and $800+ for tires. I'm not sure how much brakes cost, but I've had to get new tires before and it runs around half that. I obviously want to keep my car in good shape and don't mind following the maintenance schedule, but $2000 for routine wear and tear stuff seems out of line. Is there any place that does maintenance for Hondas for less that you guys would recommend? Oh.. and I don't do any of repairs or car maintenance myself.

I think it's time that we start some sort of data base for this - maybe split into "any car" vs. "hybrid - specific." Here in the Phoenix AZ area, Tucker Tire on Camelback is my choice for "regular," but I don't think they have enough hybrid experience.

The best place is at a reputable 3rd party shop, especially one that specializes in japanese cars and has a great reputation.

Or, your driveway.

Brakes: In parts should be less than $200 for front brakes if you need rotors. Otherwise if you don't need new rotors, more like $60..
$700 is positively ridiculous.

Tires are usually about $100 per tire and then you pay someone to mount n balance.

I once took my car to a Dick Hannah dealership to get a (always free) new seatbelt. They did a free 'world class inspection' and gave back a recommended repair bill of $1510.90
t belt package $995.95 - because "front engine seals leaking", car barely uses any oil!
replace sway bar bushing and bracket (meh works fine) $320
replace hood release cable $195

So, don't get services done at the dealership
