So I need to pull up a small stump out of my yard...My Fiance has a mercury town car that would make easy work of it, but she won't let me use it to do it.

I was wondering if my civic would be capable? The stump is about 6 inches across, and I left about 3 feet high so that I can have extra leverage.

Should I attempt this with my civic? If so where should I attach the cord to the car?(And should I pull forward, attaching the cord to the back of the car, or pull backward and attach the cord to the front of the car.

I have a 2006 Civic lx sedan.

Oh Lord No! Stop!
You can bend a freekin' snow plow blade with a tree that size, and you will just ruin any car trying to do anything to it. You would need a D-9 Bulldozer for this job.

Call a professional tree service with a stump grinder to lop it off at ground level and then grind it below flush (below ground level)...then cover it with dirt or whatever they recommend doing to it.

It will be cheaper than the damage you will do to any car.

My uncle pulled a tree stump that was slightly larger than this with his small pick-up truck(that has less Hp and Torque than my civic)

But I'd rather not risk it, if you guys say so I'll find another way.

I'd probably shovel away as much dirt as I could, then just dig my chainsaw in and cut as much below ground level as I could.

Leave it be unless it is above ground level where the lawnmower will catch it.

I can sharpen the chain later.

This is what I did with a row of hedges i in the back yard earlier this year.

Like he says!

Once you've dug out around the trunk and major roots, use a saw to cut the trunk free. Sand and dirt will dull a chain in seconds. Rinse off any soil on the roots before you cut in.

Depends on the type of tree, soil, roots. I wouldnt attempt it, but if you had a pickup truck or even a hitch on your car it may be possible to just give it a little tug, but that tow hook is only welded to the trunk pan not the frame, so it would be in your best interest not to.

The reason I need to get rid of it is because I will be building a shed and the stump will be in the way, and I don't have a chainsaw.
But oh well, I'll find another way to get rid of it, thanks guys.

(It's a holly tree and is in very soft soil, in fact if you walk 50 feet into the woods behind it you run into a swamp)

Borrow a truck.
Heck, I bought a cheapo electric chainsaw from Sears about 3 years ago for about $50, well worth it at the time.
Another couple bucks for bar oil and sharpening files.
And constantly adjusting the bar for chain stretch.

Haha i've got the same chainsaw...always have to tighten the chain.
