Hello all:

First post. I just bought a 2007 LX civic (galaxy gray...quite a popular color). I haven't read my owner's manual fully. When should I get the first oil change? Also, is there a maintenance(miles)/schedule somewhere in the manual (could not find it)?

first oil change you should do between 3-5 thousand i dont care what they say, do not wait until that % gets to 15.
get your tires rotated every 10k as well as your brakes serviced

I did mine at 2500 miles, myself, 15 minute job.

yea its definitely not hard, you just wanna make sure you leave the factory oil in for the full 5k miles its got additives for break in and special lubricants for seals

I was under an impression that this car tells you exactly when to change it's oil, and other things, why would anyone do it sooner?

i think i read your cr is leased? in that case do it then but as far as i'm concerned it doesn't matter when to change your oil by the manual, change every 3k miles.. oil doent lat much longer than that... the "oil life meter" normally is a timer of sorts it doens't measure if the oil is old or not

Do you think that synthetics only last @ 3k as well? I agree with you 100% on conventional. But I've heard that synthetics last quite a bit longer. Im not talking like 15k...more like 5k.

Well Ive See Oil Changed Everyday, And I Use Amsoil Synthetic Which Is About The Best There Is Gauranteed To Last 7500 Miles, I Change It Every 3k And Its Definitely Pretty Used.

Honda indicates, like Wadely said, that the initial oil change should not be done early as there are additives in the oil that help with engine break in.

I have a 06 civic ex coupe, i have like 3500 miles and like 60% oil life left, I will wait till oil life is 0% as manual states first oil change should be.I usually change my oil every 3,000 miles also..But i dont keep cars long...soooo.

I hate to stir up a hornets nest here, but there's no bigger or worse old wive's tale in the automotive world than the 3000 mile oil change, which was the norm in 1950. Computerized manufacturing, modern metallurgy, lubricant & engine technologies, unleaded fuels, computerized engine management systems, etc. have all combined to drmatically extend oil change intervals. A modern engine can easily go 15,000 miles between oil changes in normal operating conditions with no ill effects whatsoever. BMW, MB, Porsche, and now Honda, use sophisticated algorithms and oil analysis to calculate optimum change intervals and can theoretically go 20k between oil changes.

The only benefit to 3k oil changes goes to the oil & filter mfrs. For you it's just a waste of money.

Just kiddin. I agree with you 100%. However, If you have an engine failure in the warranty period and the manufacturer does an oil analysis that determines the viscosity was poor...good luck with that. Ive taken cars in the past over 5k and never had an issue. I try to keep up with it at 5k and use synthetic just in case I have an issue. It also makes me feel like Im doing something nice for my baby. Here's one for you...Remember the old Slick 50 commercials where they would add slick 50 then drain the engine oil and keep running the engine? If that really worked why even put oil in?
