Ok so I tried to hardwire my radar detector and I followed the directions. The problem is that the light stays on, but very dimly. I tried to just take the bulb out, but then the detector wont turn on? Any input on this problem?
What detector model? Where is it wired to? We need more details before we can help you.
It's wired to the EX roof lights, as stated in the Hard Wire Radar Detector DIY I previously mentioned, you know, the process I'm having trouble with.
I wired mine on the driver side bottom corner. Pull the rubber door trim loose, run wire in crack of top of dash, down where the trim goes, to the bottom of the dash near the floor, Located the fuse panel & wired one wire into the radio fuse, and the other was grounded on the steering shaft bolt. This way it automatically comes on and goes off when the key is turned on.

That's a oretty good idea. But I want mine the way its described in the Hard Wire Radar Detector DIY. I'm trying to do this and I ran into the problem where my map light stays on when the radar detector is on. If anyone's done this DIY, can you help me out?
you sure you don't have a cut in any of the wires, make sure you have it wired properly,
does the light stay on or does it dim out after a while because it could just be a capasitor in the rader detector draining???????

No it stays on, but very dim, sort of like when you turn a flash light on and the batteries are almost shot.
well dude, if all the wires are correct, and the light stays on then i'd hardwire it to something else like radio or gauge cluster, i know thats more work but probably better,
i do believe that the wire going to the bulb is always hot that way it will work with the 4 or 5 switches that trigger it to come on........try a different wire i guess
