Honda OEM Factory Alarm

I have a '03 EX and was looking to get the factory alarm installed. Can anyone tell me if this is a good alarm or not, or would it be better to go with an aftermarket brand? Also, does anyone know if most audio/electronic install shops can install the OEM alarm or does it have to be done by a dealer?

I bought the factory alarm and installed it myself in my '02 EX. I wasnt in a hurry so it took a couple of hours. The alarm sucks like mentioned above, but I didnt know any reputable alarm shops and didnt want some bozo messing up my car. If you have simple hand tools, you can do it youself, its pretty simple. The hardest part was separating the steering column covers to drill the hole for the LED. After that, its just a couple of connectors that you plug in and a few other small things. It works, but it has REALLY basic features. My logic behind buying it was I knew it would work, its plug and play and if a theif really wanted my shiz they could take it anyways. Plus it has the Immobilzer system to fend off your average car thief. FWIW..

Thanks for all the replies. When you all say the OEM security system sucks, is this because its very basic and doesn't have nearly the feature of the aftermarket, or is it because it really doesnt work well, i.e. a thief could break the window and shake the car violently and the alarm would still not go off?

why not go to Audio/Electrical shop then ask around what type of features you looking for, for me dont bother with eBay stuff, just look around, and get a quote.

yup, the remote look ugly, but these kind of 2 way secuity pager have many functions, like remote starter, instant status of your car (like the window is broken, the door is open, the engine is started.......) and u can recevie the signal within half to a mile far......

what do you think? or do they have any other same type of 2 way pager but the face is look better? thanks!

who cares if its 2-way. if its not a quality product, what happens if and when it goes off. will it work? who knows because the quality isnt there. its only useful if the 2-way is quality enough to actually send the signal to your pager.

features are features. i got the black widow 2-way pager system w/ lcd screen on the pager for $110. i worked at best buy and got in on the accomadation program from black widow. It was $500 regular price. It has all the prox sensors, shock sensors, towing sensors, remote start, 2-way pager, panic, etc. etc.

Well that is the reason that I keep all my CD's on back-up images on my computer. Makes it much easier to replace what gets stolen or scratched if you have the image
