speed limiter

ok this is my problem our civics will do more than 115 mph
but due to the fact we have such low speed limiters we cant
so is there a fuse to pull or something to get ride of it . the reason i ask if theres a fuse
because my buddy had a 95 supra it also had a limiter and he pulled a fuse and got ride of it
so is there a way to disable our speed limiters because i know our cars would go faster at 115mph im onyl at like 4500 rpm so i could go faster but the dumb limiter kicks in
any help?

As far as I know, the only way is to change your ECU.

I don't think our cars have a speed limiter. Since they don't go that fast anyways, i think our only limiter is the rev limiter.

I dunno.

Gotta love when the Mod doesn't know wtf he is talking about. But at least he admits it.

There is a limiter on the car. There seems to be some debate on when it kicks in. I have heard from 118 to 135. Some of them are probably KMH. I can tell you that mine (02 ex 5speed) stops me from accelerating at 125MPH on the speedo. It doesnt do anything except not allow me to go any faster(meaning there isn't a noticable kick or anything like there is when you hit the rev limiter)

As far as disabling it..you would need to either replace the ECU or get it reprogrammed. There is not a fuse you can pull to accomplish this.

Good Luck

The speeds are governed; The LX top speed is around 115 & the EX's at 127 (same as the HP)
I don't hit my rev limiter, when i hit top speed ~ 127. hothondacivic02 doesn't when he's doing 115. I have an EX, he has an LX? These observations fit w/ the assumption our cars have limiters.

This can be removed, by either tricking the sensors that the limiter uses (don't think anyone does this) or by a new ECU program.

BS TO ALL, I think. I have a 2001 Civic EX. I hit 134 and i only couldn't go faster becuase my rev limiter kicked in when i redlined. And that was stock with 4 people in the car. But thet is what the Speedometer said and we all no that isn't always accurate. I am waiting for my new suspension before i try it again after i install my new Stage 2 camshaft and AEM cam gear. I'll let you all know if there really is a limiter or not. As for 2002+ I wouldn't doubt it if you had one. US laws are getting more strict every year.

ya, my 2002 LX Coupe does the same thing. around 115-118 and 4500 rpm it just stops going faster. i am almost positive there is a limiter b/c whenever i hit that mark the car almost feels like it jumps or jerks forward a little then it stops going faster. has anyone else felt anything like this when hitting top speed?

does anyone know what the cheapest chip out there is that we can buy that would fix this problem?

first off, speedometers are more or less usless after 100mph. 2nd, EX is either electronically or drag limited to 127 mph. if its drag then you can raise top speed by having mods. if its electronically limited then you will need a new chip. same goes for all other models but they are limited to 118.

Humm, I wonder if you were to put a switch on the speed sense wire at the CPU if that would solve the issue. To my knowledge the CPU has no clue what gear you are in. If nothing else I bet a "reducer" could be easily made that tricked the cpu into thinking you were going a "set" speed of like 100.

Interesting.

The ex is not limited to 127mph .... or maybe the autobahn is really an advantage? I have no problems going past 127mph.
I have no mods on my car yet and I have no problem reaching those speeds at stock. But I wont argue it may be correct for you that your car cannot go over 127mph.

LX's have governers because they come stock with 14" tires. EX's come with 15" tires.
I guess that they figure its unsafe to do 115+ on 14" firestones.

I have an 2002 Lx and the b*tch wont go above about 110mph, I was surprised but I get the same thing as mentioned above... I just kind of dies on you. You're still going 110 or so but if feels like the power is being taken away.

I've done 110 in 4th on my 02 EX but haven't topped out 5th yet. Definately had some decent pull left. At that time I had the K&N FIPK2 and Mozart rear section exhaust.

first off, the limiter is on your rpm, not your speed, if you notice your engine will cut out at th ered line no matter what gear you are in. th eonly way to get rid of this is to have your car re-chipped.
