DIY Trunk Bar Just Finished - with supporting facts
Spent 2 days with a friend making this bar. Total price was about 15 bucks to make the whole setup. All in all money well spent. I can tell a difference when making turns. Back end feels alot tighter then stock setup.

I don't see how that bar could make any difference at all unless hooked up to the rear struts which it is obviously not. I'm thinking the better handling that you think you're seeing is all in your head. You changed something that you thought would make a difference, and therefore you think you feel the difference. Just MO. Did you have any factual basis or knowledge from somewhere else that that would actually work?
personally, I dont think that does anything. But... mods that dont do anything usually impress girls. And im all for that, so good job
. Taking girl to school.. "ya just throw your bag in the trunk.".... "whats this blue bar?"... "oh that increases the rigidy of the chasis"... "omg LETS HAVE SEX"... "k" As I am sure you all imagine, that never happens to me

What a waste of time and money that mod was. It won't do crap for your car. It's not going to make the chassis more rigid or anything like that. All it's doing is taking up trunk space.

Hey guys, what do you think a floor bar does??? It increases the strength of the chasis in the middle so why whouldn't it do the same in the rear?
(edit) Looking at the pics again i dont think i would have mounted it the same way he did, though

That trunk bar is too close to the end of the chassis to do any good. There is already a bar there.

Strut bars and floor bars help because they connect and hold together the open spots of the chassis.

The bar is pretty simple to make. Go to a hard ware store a pick up a standard steal soild or square tube bar. While I was there I bought grade 8 5/16 by 24 by 3 and a half inch bolts, airplane nuts, washers and rubber washers ( to seal the back end of the bolt). As you pull back the carpet on te back of the trunk you will see that there is already holes drilled out. I used those holes, and drilled right through the outer part of the car. Once that is complete its pretty much just the process of bolting everything up.

This Strut bar idea can from members from team-integra.net and also a senior member from that page was the one whole helped me during this install. If you dont believe this makes a difference, then your not open minded enough =) I didnt think it would do anythign either but steering responce when taking corners has improved. For 15 bucks in my mind it was worth it.
If anyone needs more info, send me a pm or email me. Jgiven01@pacbell.net

i can't see the pics either, but from what i'm reading that bar isn't going to do a thing for you. i'm getting that the bar is way to the back of the trunk, which is already rigid. you would have been much better off doing the same thing but attaching it to your strut towers, which are just behind the rear seats if you didn't know. take a look and you'll see that there is a big open area with no structural metal, this open area is called the pass through for the seats. open area leads to weak chassis. strut tower bar, which goes right where open area is, stiffens chassis, improving handling and response. random bar just put in trunk does nothing for the chassis, since there is already structural steel there. try again. waste of $15
much of that was sarcasm, for those that can't read into such things.

please tell me how this helps your car. you tied it to your bumper basically. the purpose of a rear upper tie bar is to tie the top of the strut points together. you tied it to a point where if there is any flex whatsoever, you will still feel it because there is no support point for the bar.
my point?: stupid and pointless mod. anything you felt is all placebo.
but hey, thats just my opinion. if you like it then thats good for you.
congradulations on beefing up your rear-end, now can you used that mod to get cheeper inshurance? if it was bigger and stronger, 'ittl probley hold your rear end from splitting open in a rear crash, like when you want to hear that r/c sound when you reverse, and your laughing it up with your friend in the passanger seat when you tell them that the sound is actually your turbo, you don't see that the tree is getting closer and BANG!! bumper falls off, dents everything in up until that cool MOD you just put in!! everythings all fuc*ed but your trunk is still straight! hay you could now attach a spoiler to it and see if 'ittl make a difference... like putting more weight on the rear-end of the car, well after you get up to 100 + MPH. humm what else??
oh man this is a good one
Wow, I’m amazed at all the flames this mod is getting. It is funny though because all of you guys flaming this mod are absolutely wrong and I'm going to prove it to you.
Is anyone here familiar with an ITR (Integra Type-R)? Well if you are then you should know that the ITR is a pure OEM track integra straight from the Honda factories. Now with all the technology put into the ITR (a track car--remember?), where do you think Honda installed one of their tie-bars: On the strut towers or on the rear chassis? If you said strut towers, then you’re WRONG!
ITR Trunk Brace (#7 on the diagram)

DIY Trunk Brace

Isn’t amazing how the DIY trunk brace mounts exactly in the same place where our Honda engineers decided to put one on the ITR? The reason why Honda put it on the stock ITR instead of a bar across the two rear towers is because that's one of the main flex points on the chassis. Honda would not have spent the money/time on that bar ifit did not serve a purpose. So undoubtedly it is a worthwhile modification!
On the other hand, we are talking about two separate cars—correct? An ITR does not have the same chassis as a 7th generation civic, but just because of that you assume that this modification would be absolutely worthless? Come on! Do you really think that the rear end of your chassis is solid? If you do than you are quite mistaken. I suggest you pull back your carpet, remove your spare-tire board, and test your chassis yourself with your thumb. If you have done this before (like I have when I help installed Jeff’s trunk brace), you will realize that with a very small amount of pressure, the metal flexes. Sorry to say guys, but the 7th generation Civic’s frame isn’t rigid at all. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 4th generation ITR (RSX Type-R) has a stock trunk brace as well. (FYI—It has the same chassis as 7th generation Civics.)
The results are real and the bar serves a purpose. You may claim it is the placebo effect, but you are mistaken…. Jeff and me are NOT the only people who have done this mod and have felt the results. Numerous people from team-integra.net (the msg board I come from) have done this mod as well and could vouch for its usefulness.
