Cleaing engine w/ intake???
I finally got my FIPK installed and as soon as the weather gets nicer I want to clean my engine. I have read before to use simple green or engine cleaners available at my local parts store, but should I cover the cone filter with a plastic bag or something before I begin washing it?

I would cover it before I started to clean the engine bay.[hr]

You don't need to take the filter off. I used to work for a car cleaning company and every once in a while we would get cars with intakes that wanted an engine shampoo. Just cover the filter with a plastic bag and clean it with engine degreaser or cleaner. Whatever you do, do not turn on the car with the filter covered with the bag. A guy that i worked with did this once, the filter bent almost in half cuz it was choking.

make sure the alternator is covered as well. i dont think the filter needs to be covered, my friend told me that its ok if the filter gets wet, just as long as it gets passed the throttle body. if it's just in the pipe, it'll evaporate.

You really don't need to cover anything, but if you want to feel save, cover the alternator and battery. Spray down with simple green the go at it with a hose or high pressure hose. The biggest suggestion I have is to do this on a dry day and not to start the car for a few hours afterwards. It won't kill your engine to have your intake get wet!
