What is this for? (pic)

This is looking up the back of the oil pan and engine block. Right above the oil pan there is an empty port. Where does it go and what is it for?
And then above the oil filter there is another port with a cone shaped shroud coming out of it (you can see the wires), what is that one for. I'm looking for someplace to T into for an oil pressure sender and I know I have to find the sender for the idiot light and T it, but I don't know what I'm looking for

There are no threads at the outer end of it, but it is about 1" long... so there may be threads further in than I can get my pinky finger (its a small hole, maybe 3/8 or 1/2 inch) and there is no plug unless there is one inside there beyond reach. I may have to ask about it at the dealer on thursday.

I'll look in there tomorrow... I've already put the car back down off the stands and don't feel like jacking it up and crawling in there again tonight
. But if anyone knows for sure what is in there, or what the sensor above the oil filter is for, say so please

It would be very sweet if there's just a threaded plug there. We could use it for an oil return line for a turbo. Or for oil pressure or temperature. Let us know...
i'm not sure what that part of the block would be used for. but i do know if your looking for a place to hook up an oil pressure sending unit it's right above the oil filter with a rubber boot covering it. unscrew the factory unit and replace it with the one that came with the gauge. be sure to connect the wires from the factory unit so your ideot light does not trigger. hope everythig goes smooth

Good news and bad news...
The lower port is blind. No threads, no plug, nothing. Must have been something that held it in the casting mold when it was made or maybe it was an injection point... I dunno. I put a set of calipers in there and it's a little less than 1/2", so if you want to tap it as a 1/2" port, you can do it, but I have no idea what you would be tapping into.
It's good that the upper one is the pressure sensor, but it's a bitch to get up there and there isn't much clearance up there to screw on fittings if it needs to be done.
The wire that goes to the stock sending unit..... How many wires are in the shroud? and will an autometer sending unit work with the idiot light? The autometer gauge only needs 1 wire from the sender so if theres more in the stock one, I have no idea what to do with them. I was just going to leave it alone and have them both running.

ok, this is how i hooked mine up. i hooked up autometers sending unit with one of there stainless steal lines because of clearence problems with the bottom of the intake manifold. i made my own bracket and bolted the sending unit to the firewall, hooked up the wire that runs to the gauge, also hooked up both wires from the factory unit to the same terminal on the sending unit. mine has worked fine like that. i don't know any other ways to do it. taking the oil filter off makes this alot eazier. sorry, i don't own a digital camera or i would post some pics.
