My Gauge Lights Wont Work??
Ok, the other day I was getting in my car, I turn on the car and the lights cuz its night time, and I smell this burning smell, I get out of my car and pop the hood to see whats the matter. I couldnt find anything, turn my car back on, and um...my gauge lights dont turn on. Everything works just fine except my gauge lights. I check all my fuses, none are blown. I take it to the honda dealer the next day and they said my cd player fried some wire behind my dash. They said since its an aftermarket cd player its not covered under warranty. They also said that they'll have to go back there and find out which wire is burnt so they'll need a diagonostic check. And the dude was like it'll cost you from 215-300 w/ new parts needed depending on if they have to order something. Does anybody know anything about this or could help me out in any way?? Thanks I appreciate all the help I can get.

That's total BS! If i was your aftermarket cd player take it back to the people who installed it and make them pay for it. I doubt it was really your cd player anyways. Get another opinion.

The only way installing a cd player will burn out your lights would be if you hook up illumination or dimmer, but that would have killed in right at the start , if it made it past the fuses .. so go back to where it was intsalled and see if the hooked up the dimmer .. 95% of the people i install with do not hook it up , most radios dont have it in the harness anyways .. go back to the Shop ask them to look at it . if they didnt , go back to the dealer and tell them that they need to fix it cause its not from the head unit .. ask your shop to send a guy with you if need be, i have been to many dealerships as a " installer ambassador" and told the service writer that he was F**King nuts and that a radio doenst hook up to that circuit , and asked him to show me , to prove it ! 95 percent of the time they cant !

ok thanks, but they said they wont even see to find out whats wrong unless I have the money to begin with, and I dont have a job anymore, so I cant do it right now, but Ill go back to find out if the cd player is messed up, but is there anyway that anybody knows that I could just replace a wire back behind the dash that could make it work again??

no no no , you dont even need to do that .. there is a things called the magnuson moss act.. it applies to anything aftermarket, whgat it says is that they have to prove to you that it was the radio .. . other wise if it is under warranty they are responsible .. ask them how the radio did it ... cause the dealer is full of **** .. you can tell them a MECP certified First class installer is sayin that ... but first bring ti back to the shop that did the radio , cause dimmer or illumination might have tagged something wrong .. that could possibly .. if it wasnt hooked up get a copy of the magnuson moss act and tell them that they are responsible unless they can prove it , have the installer who did the install there , or lemme know and i will tell them they are Outta there damn mind s

I would just ask him.......he should know..........i have a gut feeling that the dealership is ****ing full of ****!!!!!!!!!!!!
heh, that happened to me a long time ago. i went to the dealer and they told me that it wont be under warantee if the aftermarket stereo caused the problem.and it was the problem. so i went to the stereoshop and told them to gimme a new stereo and pay for my guage cluster and they said they aret responsible for what happens to the car. so i took them to small claims court and won the case...heh try that.i also got a little extra cash too.
