no not the shock, but the bar that goes UNDER the speaker. I have two of them that criss cross and they rattle. I just want to know what they are used for or if i can take them out.
ohmysac is right.. (God that just doesn't sound rite) they are to counter the weight of the trunk. I removed them after alot of work because my Alpine Type R wouldn't fit. Grey and I replaced them with 40 pounds gas shocks and used my car for his DIY. The shock work great but you have to install them just rite or you trunk won't close properly.
I don't think rob is talking about the trunk lid opener bar doohicky... he's talking about the U-shaped bar underneath each of the rear speakers.
Rob- I think those are just to protect the back/magnet area of your speaker. So if you don't have crap bouncing around in your trunk I think you would be okay taking them off. However, if you do this and your speakers fall out... I guess I'll owe you some speakers

the U shaped bar is part of the trunk spring... it's just shaped like that to clear the speaker
i couldn't really see what was going on in that pic, and my memory is so shot i couldnt think what my trunk had going on.
maybe try wrapping some black electrical tape around each torsion spring so when they bang together they don't make such a harsh sound
