an AWD is a vehicle with the ability to power all wheels constanly and it stays that way at all time,a 4WD has the option to allows the front wheels to use power from the transmissin as well by a push of a button.

AWD means that all 4 tires CAN be powered. The car primarly runs in FWD but if the front tires slip power is diverted to the rear wheels until the front get's traction again. More advanced AWD systems can divert power to a particular tire. 4WD means that the power is split 50/50 betweent he front and rear axles all the time when engaged. And btw, buttons are gay. Electronic locking hubs always screw up when you need them. Manual hubs are the best.
