AM Reception

I know this topic has been posted numerous time before but I have a question that I have been unable to find an answer for. Many people as well as I have experienced a dramatic loss of AM reception following the installation of a aftermarket HU. I have read many posts about a signal amplifier located in our civics. Since my car doesn't have a power antenna I didn't hook up the power antenna wire from the wiring harness anywhere. Is this the wire that powers the signal amplfier or does the signal amplifier have an alternate soure of power. I really enjoy listening to AM talk shows while I am in my car and I really would like to regain AM reception without the addition of and external antenna. Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am in my car all day long and after you listen to FM stations for about an hour all of the songs start to repeat themselves. It gets real boring real quick. At least with AM stations you don't get the same repetitive stuff over and over again. I am actually very much into car audio as you can see. I really enjoy a good sound system, but at the same time I also want good AM/FM reception.

After making my last post I went out a tore my car apart a little bit. I found the AMP in the C-Pillar and tested it for voltage and it wasn't receiving power. I checked the factory wiring harness to make sure that all the wires matched up with wires on aftermarket harness and found that one of the wire had no macthing connections on the aftermarket harness. I'm not sure what brand harness it was I bought last year, but it does not have a wire that matches up to the turn on for the factor signal amp, I had to splice into it to provide it with 12+ power and the amp now turns on with the radio. Reception is noticeably better, however the factory antenna has horrible AM reception.
