DIY tricked out hood safety question.....
im in the process of doing somthing very cool with my hood but i got a safty question. If i do this mod i would be taking out the rear hinges where the hood pivots. if i do this and get in a crash, will the hood come flying in the winshield or no, i mean do the hinges break when people get into crashs normally cause they dont look that heavy? would it be a safty concern? i wana work this out but i want it to be safe. any opinions?
its not like a chevy nova hood or some thing where if you hit in the right sopt it would come through and chop you half but i would try to make some kinda of lach like in the front just to be safe
i think you will be fine then. if anything it will fly over you unless you hit a car head on going 80 but then i would think you probly deserve it

As long as you have some kind of fastener ( I take it you're installing the gas shocks so it lifts straight up) that is strong enough to oppose the force of a collision, you'll be ok. What you want is for the hood to basically fold up between the 2 latch points (front and back) and not lift straight up. Just make sure however you fasten the rear of the hood is strong enough to hold the hood in placeshould the front crumple.

Our hoods are pretty cheesy. Ive lifted my civic hood and the hood of my 72 Chevy Nova and theres about a 50pound weight difference and the Nova hood is solid. I think the Civic hood would crumble against the windshield.
