Engine Swap

Hey guys..I'm brand new to this post and I was referred by Michael Yu.

Anyhow...I have a 7th gen civic ex and I'm thinking about doing an engine swap to a b18...however, I don't know much about engine swaps...can I sell my engine, seeing how it only has 3k on it? As always the budget is low and I'm trying to conserve as much money as I can if that is even possible...

ATM I have DC Sports Headers, AEM CAI, AEM true power pulleys, and Greddy EVO exhaust...should I continue with the mods...or go for a DOHC?

Brandon

by the way the civic that did the K20A2 swap is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the swap can be done but you'll probably need to put in as much time and money as aaron did with his k20 swap... so yea... if you're on a budget, be prepared to starve for your engine swap.. haha.. j/p but yea... it's gonna be a b*tch

For those of you that actually did this swap..have you put your cars on a dyno? You really should do that because if you are only getting another 20 or even 40 horsepower, you should feel really crunchy, lol. I could not imagine spend thousands of dollars for an engine swap and gaining less than 100 hp...ugggg.

Well the flywheel rated hp is gonna be that of the swapped engine no matter what, it all depends on the efficiency of the drivetrain of the car the engine is goin into for whp. Also, swappin an engine is not only about the initial benefits, but the increase in potential...ie a K20 has a lot more room for improvement than say our dinky d17.

well, if u go with a type-s, then the BASE HP on that engine is rated at 200, however it prolly only works out to about 180 or so. still, over any of the civic engines, thats atleast 50+ hp to the wheels on a STOCK engine, not including the fact that there are a MILLION different aftermarket mods out for that car now. now, if 50+ HP sounds good to u, and u can afford the swap... go for it. just research. a good person to talk to is HTOWN.

the B18 on the other hand might be lil less worthy of a swap, being that it is an OLDER engine, so it will not be legal, it will produce less HP, and it will be more of a hassle swap in. if u got the money, stick to the RSX Type-S.

at this point in the game since you have so many mods to your D17, you should go for a turbo setup. It's probably going to have to be custom, but we'll see what HKS has to say after NOPI nationals...supposed to be some kind of announcement for the HKS turbo. That's what I'm planning on doing since it's only gonna run about 5 grand which is less than the cost of the K20 or a b series swap.

Ok, the whole reason to DO a engine swap is to start off with a better platform engine and then work from there. I think it would be pretty stupid to do an engine swap and then just stop modding the car. Yes, doing the k20 & possible b16 swaps are pricey, but what would you rather have; a $hitty engine layout and put money into that and get minimal hp gains, or have a better engine that will take more money to swap in, but at the same time give you a greater potential for higher hp gains? I would choose doing an engine swap. Thats just my opinion though.

Im sponcering Venomscivic for a motor swap project, and were kinda back and forth about which to do. the b series is supposed to actually take less modding due to the fact that the engine sits on the same side of the car. the only thing that would need to be added is a return fuel line etc. but otherwise D and B series blocks are extremely different in size im told...so idunno..........
