Hit Different Limiter

I was driving 113mph in 4th gear and I was at 6,100rpm's. The fuel cut off and the rpm's dropped. I hit some sort of a limiter. Anyone had this happen? The rpm limiter is at 6,800rpm, so I don't get what this was? Speed limiter? I'll have to try going faster than 113mph in 5th next time...

I think our cars have a governer, (the same thing that keeps school busses in my area under 55 mph). It cuts the fuel once you reach a certain speed, and then lets the fuel flow again once the car has dropped to a certain speed. I don't know...just a theory.

Sounds like a speed governor or fuel cut off of some type, but i thought those were set around 120 on our cars? anyone know if we get tires rated at high speeds if Honda will reset our governors?

I have a 2k2 ex coupe, and my speed limiter lets me go to 132 mph. Honda will never reset your governor for any reason, I do believe there is some type of bypass though.

Funny things....our "speed limiters" and "fuel cutoffs". I have been in the 125~127mph area once a long long time ago, and I decided it was enough, not any speed limiter. And the other day I was letting of some steam and enjoying my 5spd transmison when I noticed on one shift I waited till 7k to shift and it was still making power. I've bounced off the rev limiter many many times, so I know exacatlly how it feels, but this time the RPM just kept on creaping up.

Hmm... Yeah, I thnk I remember that happening once too... Maybe the limiter is based on a different sensor that we don't see? Then there is a discrepency betwean that sensor and the rpm's? Or... Maybe the ECU calculates a couple of things before cutting off the fuel. For example, I was in 4th creaping up to 113mph for a while. Maybe it has a time limit at high rpm's as well?

Little mod's might make a difference, and the idea of a time limiter doesn't sound too far fetched...but I don't really wanna go out there and rev up my car alot and drive around town trying to get to 130 or so to test these theories...

Ok, enough of that, i'm about to bust a gut laughing....I've never hit the limiter and I got to about 122 in my LX.
