Painting amber bulbs for clear lenses
I remember a post long ago where someone explained a DIY for painting bulbs so that ugly amber color didn't show though a clear lens.. anyone remember how it's done?

no, I mean I want an amber bulb, but I want the bulb to have a clear/silver finish so you can't see the amber color when it's not lit.

Does anybody know where to find the silvervision bulbs, and if they even make them for our car? I really wouldn't mind dropping $30 just to give them a try. I think it'd be pretty slick.

AIGHT PEEPS listen up. I went out and bought the paint, here's my experience:
$10 for amber bulbs, $4 for silver heat-resistant paint, $1,500 for a full-size deck. I am ready to begin.

I applied ONE, VERY light coating to each bulb

here are my before pics:

and my after pics:

I took each picture with the bulb at its brightest point (10 frames a sec animation, posted the brightest frame). the signal is VERY dim with the silver paint.. perhaps I need to apply an even ligher coat. what's funny is, I took the before pics after the project, because I ended up removing the paint since the light was so dim. help me decide guys, should I try again with an even lighter coat? based on the pics, is it worth it? I must say that is one ugly egg yolk in the rear.

I did the same thing today! No pix though. I did my front's, so I don't think the dimming effect of the paint will be as pronounced. I'm gonna let my paint cure a day before I stick 'em in. If I'm lucky, the my new digicam should be here tomorrow.
I'm also thinking I sprayed on too much paint... doh!

i just cleared my headlight yesterday. i used the stock corner lights and colored them with a blue sharpie marker. they look awsome now. the blue shows up in the housing when theyre not on and it lights up the whole side when they are on. i purchased new apc titanium bulbs fro it but they dont fit in from the back so ill have to pull apart the light again to put them in.
Sweet idea guys, but is there a DIY or a describition on how to get the cleared rear turn signal?

Glad to see someone has tried the painting... too bad it comes out so dark.

Here's a pic of mine before I pulled 'em out and put the blue colored bulbs back in. It was pretty hard to see if it was blinking if there was bright sunlight shining.

I tried LED.. and didn't like the hyper-blinker result, so I went to plan B I'm satisfied now.. looks great

Explain "hyper blinker". the painted light looks good, for the front?

Actually, it might. If there's less resistance in the circuit, the capacitor for the timing chip fires sooner. The solution is to do the DIY Hyperblinker, but use a resistor that will slow the timing down. That would be the best solution IMO. The silver coating sucks. I wanted a chrome coating, but I couldn't get it to work. Maybe a light coating of atomized metal would be the best? Sort of like Oakley glasses. Anyway, as posted by Mex, it dims the light. That's one thing that sucks about it. I think I'll do the LED reverse hyperblinker thing myself (if I ever get those euro tails or similiar tails).
