Red Line *Update*
the only reason i was thinkin of this is because i figure the power band on our cars is near the top.......basically where the VTEC kicks in around 4400......that only leaves about 2000 more rpms to initate and gain from the VTEC (and thats proly why everybody bought there car was for the VTEC) now i know u can lower the point where it acually kicks in but u also need to re-map the fuel curve to take advantage of the increase in air flow. here my hypothosis......
Witht the help of a VPAC lowering the VTEC initiation point and suppliying the adequet fuel with increase power and torque. i say turn the VTEC on around 3600 rpms. with new cam shaft, valves, springs, retainers, and seals this will alow higher rpms......inturn letting the VTEC be on longer.......oh yea and pistons and rods
our cars sit right now.......vtec at 4400 and reline at 6900.......thats 2500 RPMS of VTEC
my dream.........................vtec at 3600 and reline at 8200.......thats 4600 RPMS of VTEC power
also shifting at a higher RPM alows the engine to rev higher when shifted.....so getting out of second at 8200 would leave u around 4500 rpms for 3rd gear allready very high in the power band.........my idea was just to keep the engine in its peek power band this would also leave u not having to shift all the way down to the finish line u could stay in 3rd and not have the forth gear shift
i dont care what u guys say i think its a good idea and would shave a lot of time off our 1/4's
heres my plan.........and i know it'll take time........but i got the money
Race cut valves
titanitum springs
retainers
seals
lightened pistons and rings
aftermarket cam shaft if they make one
ECU tuned
VTEC engagment controler
oil cooler
port and polish
flywheels if they make one
head job
plasma booster.....they can handel up to 10,000 RPMS
and i'd have to run a 92 octaine gas to prevent knocking
fuel pump? larger injectors?
current mods to date:
Injen CAI
Dc Sports Ceramic Header
Greddy EVO Exhaust
Koni Yellows
Eibach Sportlines
am i forgetting anything????

Not trying to sound like an *** or anything, but have you thought about the RSX engine swap. That way you get real hp, instead of our little VTEC, you would also get the i-VTEC if that is really your fancy. That and you would automatically get a 73 hp jump over stock hp (even though your not). Granted the headers and CAI won't work for your car, but hey just an idea for ya. Good luck with whatever your choice is-

wee you're always full of shiet I swear. you never have anything intelligent or useful to say about anything. Strider is not talking about vtec getting him any freaking power he's talking about a rsx-s swap. A stock RSX-S motor has 73 more horses than a stock EX. damn make sure you know what you're talking about before you open your mouth
By the way they are right you should just do a swap if you're really serious about this. Oh and if you plan on doing this to your D17 you'll probably need a bigger throttle body and maybe a knife edged crankshaft. That would reduce the resistance of the crankshaft while it turns in the oil, but at the same time, you might end up with a rough idle. It's really up to you. I say go for the swap
