Free Air Subs?
My friend has some "free air subs" in his bmw 5 series, and they sound pretty good, so i may pick some up for my civic, but are these good? i mean i like it, coz
1) u dont see it
2) it doesnt take up any room almost (depending on where u mount it
3) it has good sound
bbut are they good, like why dont a lot of people have it?

Ohh you've never seen 'em?
They look like regular speaks, well no forget that they look like reg. 10 or 12 subwoofers, but they dont need to be in a box!
some sort of technology or whatever they use, so u need a box but it still has a sub sound...

i think most GOOD subs require a box. most free air subs you see have both bad quality and BOOM. i think its called SQ and SPL... but ya post in the right forum next time..

There are some excellent free-air subs that sound just as good if not better than a lot of box-mounted ones. The JL Audio IB4 is an incredible sounding free-air sub, widely used in some of the best SQ competition vehicles. Oz Audio has some as well but they are a little harder to find. It just depends on your situation, some installs don't have room for an enclosure and infinite baffle is the only option. One of the best sounding systems I ever had was in my Toyota Tacoma x-cab where I used two 8" JL Audio IB4 subs, the bass was incredible.

For me I know why lotsa people don't have them...
1. Not into sound, going more for performance...
2. never heard of them
If they sound good go for them, got any pics of them?
Yeah...you add any weight to our cars and then you need nitrous or FI just to carry the extra weight around.

I've tried a few Pioneer free air subs but they all sucked. They didn't have the sound that enclosed subs do. They were only good for not taking up too much space but they too push air so if you have any other speakers around, you're going to get distorted because the sub may rob or be robbed of necessary air. In other words, seperate the free airs from each other some how as well as any other speakers sharing the same space.
