Changing oil and converting to Synthetic. Anything special need to be done?
I am due for my first oil change soon, and figured I would do it myself, since it gives me something to do when I'm bored. I've searched for "oil" and have rooted through all 10 pages for the answer to my question, but couldn't find my answer. I plan to switch to synthetic oil, since it is a better lubricant, ect. , but my question is is there anything special I need to do to make the switch, or is it just drain the old regular oil and put in the new synthetic oil?
Also I plan to get that new fram drain plug to make it easier to drain next time.. Anyone have any comments on that? Also I know they make them (I've seen a commercial or two and I think it's fram) but I am looking for the oil filter that you can tighten and take off with your hand (no tools needed). Anyone know the maker?
One last and very important thing. I have searched Yahoo and here, but came up with nothing. Anyone know of a drop off place for your old oil? I know dumping it is a NO NO, and if no one knows where I could find a list of places to drop my old oil off at in MD, I guess I'll have to make a late night deposit at area Jiffy Lubes.

No you don't need to do anything special. Did you check out Royal Purple? It's what I use. All the Jiffy Lubes around here will take used oil as an environmental courtesy. Check yours (different franchisees).
you should get the spoon drain plugs...they are magnetic and will capture any of those pesky metal particals that may be floatin around waiting to damage your engine...just a suggestion...

Found the spoon drain plug on shopping.yahoo.com for $45.00@streetlightz.com. Any place cheaper? Also I am assuming you don't have to replace it and it works the same way the new Fram drain doo-hickey(I can't think of the word right now) that is out now. Am I correct in my assumption?
