Type of fuel our cars uses?
I would like to ask whoever knows what type of fuel used in the US. In my country we used to have leaded fuel last year which was bad for our cars, but now we only have unleaded fuel all around the country.
Types of fuel used in my country are:
1-Regular unleaded fuel: 90RON
2-Premuim unleaded fuel: 95RON
i am not sure i think i heard that in the US they use MON instead of RON. Does anyone know the formula to convert RON,MON and PON around?
*RON= Research Octane Number
*MON= Motor Octane Number
*PON= Pump Octane Number
If you guys have any additional info to add, please let me know.
Thanks!

NickDaMans02Civic are these numbers in MON or RON (both are in octane man). MON and RON are a little different. M is the Motor octane and R is the Research octane. Which one did you mean?
any more feedback would be appreciated,
Peace

The manual specifies 86+ octane as acceptable, but most stations have Regular 87. Use that otherwise you're just wasting money. There is no benefit to high octane in our cars as it doesn't require it.
In Canada, we can get 94 octane at Sunoco.

well i am from Oman (where the yellow shade is). I live in Muscat the capital of Oman (where the star is)

Well this post isnt about me hehe, so lets get back to the subject. In Oman we have two type of unleaded fuel only:
1-regular= 90RON
2-Premuim= 95RON
the numbers i mentioned are fixed and they dont vary. It is all around my country. I am asking about the fuel in US, cause i am aiming in buying the LHD RSX-R when it is on sale in the US and this is part of my research.
Well i dont prefer any petrol stations, cause there are only two in my country (BP and Shell), both seem good here since the poeple are happy filling from them.
So do you think if i buy the RSX-R from the US (thats when its out) will work properly with our 95RON fuel here in Oman?

In the US, we usually have 3 different "octane" choices. This varies from state to state because of emission laws. Here in Louisiana we have:
Low Grade, which is 87 octane.
Medium Grade, which is 91 octane.
And Premium Grade, which is 93 octane.
Usually, the Motor Octane number is lower than the Research Octane Number, but due to Federal regulations, our "octane" is an average of Research Octane and Motor Octane. This is sometimes referred to as the aki or anti-knock index, or sometimes road octane, but we call it octane. The formula for our 'octane' is (R+M)/2. The MON determines the octane value of the gasoline with the engine under load conditions while the RON determines the octane no-load condition.
A rule of thumb is that the RON of a gasoline equals the AKI + 5. So the RON of our 93 "octane" gas is about 98.
Here's a web page that explains the differences.....Octane Number Confusion
Here's another page that answers a few questions about AKI indexes and RON.

This answers my question thanks AEMcivic .
My conclusion: so you can run the JDM Integra Type R (RSX-R) with your fuel, but the problem now you only need a RHD to LHD conversion so i think i need to wait till Honda gives us a shout out!
Well this even means that when i said that in my country Oman we had 95RON it equals 90 Octane as used in the US, same formula used {MON+RON}/2. But i guess it is easier if you convert to RON, cause most cars i am interested in are from Japan (JDM), so for instance the JDM Integra Type R can work properly with a 98RON minimum but the manufacturer recommend using 100RON fuel, which is 95 octane rating in the US (RON=octane rating+5). At the end if you have 93-95 octane rating in the US it means that the DC5R is possible to drive., but i guess you still have to wait until they unleash the LHD version like the Type S (came form the the new JDM Integra IS model which is RHD).

For the best mileage use 87 octane, for decent acceleration use 89 octane, and for just more speed use the 97 octane. I've use all three before. For right now I'm using 87 octane because of the high gas prices, but when the gas price goes down i'll switch back to 89 octane.
I think only cars with higher compression (b-series motors, the toyota/yamaha thing on the celicas, etc) or forced induction need the more efficient burning high octane fuels. our cars don't need 93 octane, but they probably would if we got something like the gude package.

If you have a stock engine, run 90RON! If it is modded with certain engine performance parts that require higher octane then use 95RON! This well known little trick will save you $ and get maxium performance from your engine at the same time! Do you have access to Chevron brand gas? If you do, use it! In my opinion, Chevron gas is in the top two of American gasolines as far as quality is concerned and performance. Just my thoughts and opinions! RBABE are BP or Shell fuel any good? cause these are the only petrol stations here in Oman that pump 95RON (90 octane rating).
lets say i have another car (which i dont have it right now, thinking of it though ). It will be 11.5:1 of head compression as a stock car. My big brother told me that new and some old cars ECU can work with any fuel RON out there in the automobile fuel industry. Well i am not sure what he said is true or not. he said that the cars efficiency wont be as expected as the recommended fuel from the manufacturer, but the car will still work. the ECU should recognise the fuel and do the adjustment by itself (retard unwated fuel, spark timing...etc), but he certainly advised me to use some kind of additives that is used to keep my engine clean (the addictives are used to stop the head pistons from oxidising from lower grade fuel used and specially from causing knock offs) thats if i am going to use a 100RON engine with 95RON fuel. Oxidation is caused from bad cooling or bad low fuel grades, but my bro seems to say that i can get that car to work properly (not perfectly) with the fuel here, but producing a little less power. The car uses 100RON fuel, while here in my country we use 95RON. BTW my brother is a Helicopter Aircraft Engineer and i realy think my borther is kinda right, cause he is more knowledgable than me. I am trying to see your feedback guys and see if it is worth if i should get the JDM Integra Type R (JDM DC5R)? I got the
sign from a Honda dealer branch in Japan. They will ship me the car with the car being LHD, since the the JDM is an RHD, i asked them to convert the RHD version using the RSX-S LHD conversion kit by getting the LHD kit from Honda Japam manufacturer (weeeeehaaaaaaa). well i dont know for sure about the RSX-R yet,but do you think guys if it is any better for me to wait for the RSX-R to come out and tell the Honda dealer i contacted in Japan to use the RSX-R LHD steering kit?
I am so excited guys, i am goona have two Hondas,
