DIY: Custom grill insert?

I was thinking about going to Home Depot and buying some mesh and making a custom grill. Is this a good idea? Has anyone done this yet, do you have pics? I s it worth saving the 300 bucks for the GrillCraft ones?

HELP!!!

I'm actually trying to do one... still on doing the pattern and it is damn long.. it is curving everywhere.. For sure it is worth saving $300 but if I had the opportunity to buy one for $100, I wouldn't trouble myself at all

its really simple. you just need to remove your bumper which takes about five mins. and then you just need to cut out the black plastic use a box cutter or utility knife. there are little screw mounts that you can attach it to on the inside of the bumper. i did mine a few days ago and it only took about a half hour.

I have made one myself and would not recommend it.
I also bought a grill from ATgrills and I would not recommend it.
If I were you I would do it right and get a Grillcraft.

ya man i just got my grillcraft upper and lower grillls today, they are bad ***, easy to install and look tight. the lower one is a little more difficult than the top, but they are so worth the money. i have a silver civic with the silver grills, bad as bad can be.

i did my own DIY front grill, it was really hard to get right, and even after that, oprning the hood was a different process cause the mesh got in the way....

it looks nice in pictures! but in person? pretty ghetto.....

needless to say, i put my stock one back in.

not worth it! (but if your bored, i sugegst you try anyways, its a neato project, and a great way to kill 4 hours of your life....) tehre is no replacement for personal experience!

There is no sense in spending $300 on one of those Grillcraft ones when it only cost me $40 and a little time. All I did was buy a quality, (heavy-duty) alluminum APC grill sheet. I took tar paper and kept cutting and fitting it until I got it just right. Then I took some tin snips and cut the pattern I made on the sheet. Then I took some sheet metal screws and drilled them into the black plastic part of the grill and attached some wire to hold the grill in place. I hope this really helped.

If I remember correctly I can get the Grill Craft grills for like $200 - $250 depending plus shipping. I think it was closer to the $200 but don't want to say for sure.
