So, EM or EX?
So which is it? Do I have a Civic EX or a Civic EM? I've been seeing it called an EM in mags recently and on the forum a bit too, but what the hell does it mean? not that I know what EX stands for either, but its what I'm used to. Which is technically correct?

Both are correct. EX refers to the trim level, EM refers to the generation. We all (most of us anyway) have EM civics, but you and I have EX's, some have LX's, etc.
The EX has the VTEC-E 1.7Liter SOHC engine, whereas the LX and DX are non-VTEC, if I'm not mistaken (the HX is VTEC as well). The EX also comes standard with A/C, power moonroof, colored mirrors and door handles, and a couple of other goodies. You can't tell the difference between two EM civics from a distance, but you should be able to tell the difference between the EM (7th Gen) and EK (6th Gen) civic from any distance.
Good question, haven't heard that one asked in a while. . .
Edit: Typo

I thought the 6th gen was an EK Civic, not an EL? and yeah, HX does have VTEC, but I believe it's VTEC-E and geared more towards economy than performance, though the VTEC on the EX helps fuel economy as well.
