removing the dash...
i want to remove my dash so that i can paint it... no, i don't mean "dash trim"... i mean the whole front part of the dash. does anyone know what is holding it on?... is it just held by the honda "wonder clip" that i've seen flying across my interior so many times in the past? or is it actually screwed in? i understand the first part: remove the center radio console, the vents, the gauge cluster lense, the AC controls, the glove box, yada yada yada... but then what? any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

hahahahahahahaha a lil excited?
well if you guys are talking about the trim around the radio and stuff all you need to do is follow the DIY for the headunit removal and then when you get it out, take out your deck, and undo the HVAC controls and then take out the defroster buttons and all, and wha la you have taken the trim out, oh, and if your talking about the full dash? your on your own cause i donno how to do that.

This is one of those things people do without enough skills or experiance in their pocket...Removing a dash is an easy task....but if you cant figure out how it comes out you probably shouldnt be doing it in the first place
removing the entire dash should not be done by anyone who is not extremley talented, as it requires udoing the airbags which are not to be tampered wtih. the only person i know to remove it is pinkytoe, so u might want to PM him.

importracer, read the first post a little closer... "i want to remove my dash so that i can paint it... no, i don't mean "dash trim"... i mean the whole front part of the dash."

well i'm not removing the entire dash... not the rear main dash that has the airbag in it... i want to remove the main front part of the dash... it's about 6-8 inches tall and stretches from the left/driverside vent to the right/passengerside vent, wrapping around and over the gauge area, around the radio console and right between the passengerside airbag and the glovebox... (hopefully that made sense... if not - go out and look at the dash of your 7th gen a little closer). that's the part that i want to remove...
i've been told that it's just held in by screws and i'm not too worried about crackin it open... i'm just trying to plan ahead and get as much input as i can so that i'll be more prepared and not waste a whole lot of time.
Elite Imports:
The piece on the front of the dash assembly is held on by screws, however, I found that I could not get it off without first removing the dash assembly. Some of the screws were just too difficult to get at. This DIY was the first modification that I did to my car with no prior experience. I know that it seems difficult, but it is really more tedious and time consuming than difficult. You just need to take be patient and set aside a lot of time to work on the project. It took me almost three full days to complete (painting) included.

omg... uhhhh, damn... i had no idea it was THAT much trouble... everything is so "snap-on/snap-off" with our cars i really didn't think this would be that big of a deal. crap. well, your pics prove that my idea will look totally phat and i totally think it's worth it. i'll just have to plan for it taking a lot longer than i expected. thanks for the DIY.
truly overwhelmed,

PS: the blue part on yours is the only part that i was gonna paint... do i have to go thru this whole process just to get that blue part off? your DIY is for the whole freakin dash, right... i just want that blue area. lemme know, thanks!

...and do you think masking it off and trying to paint it inside the car is even worth trying? after seeing how tight your looks by taking the whole thing out... i think i'd rather go that route...

yeah, after reading the DIY i'm really hoping that i don't have to go thru everything that he went through... he still has't gotten back to me about whether or not the whole thing has to be taken out just to remove the front part of the assembly. i REALLY don't want to have to screw with the airbags!
but like you fellas have all said, i really don't wany to paint inside the car either... that's a whole lot of masking off and i don't wanna ph*ck up the leather... the way my year's been going i'm liable to screw everything up! oh well... gotta have faith.

<< FYI the airbag control dealy (the part that will send the electricity to the bags) is in the dash so be careful... one mistake and youll be sitting in the back seat
>>If you disconnect the battery before beginning, then the airbags shouldn't be getting any juice...

Elite: Unfortunately, that's the only way that I could find to get at the screws. The piece in question (front part) is screwed onto the main dash, which is screwed/bolted onto the metal framing. I could not get to the screws holding onto the piece in question without first removing the rest of the dash. I tried to do it the way that you suggested first, but I found that I just couldn't do it. I know that there are a few others who have painted their dash boards, but I do not know if they masked or not (I know at least one did... he has pics). Just run a search on "dash" or "trim painting", etc and they should come up.
As far as the airbags, read my last post... just disconnect battery. This really wasn't an extremely difficult job (like I said, it was my first mod), it just takes time.
Personally, I would not attempt to paint inside the car. They are way too many angles that you have to hit that painting in the car won't allow for. It is very important that you are able to spray on even coats. As mentioned by pthers, there is always a chance of overspray, no matter how well, you may have masked. Dunno though, just my opnion...
Although this mod took a lot of time, I thought it was worth it. To me, it gives the car a unique look... and adds 25hp! hee hee...

just disconnecting the negative cable at the battery will not disable the airbags. a capacitor is hooked up to the bags in case of battery Separation during a collision. you need to give about 15 minutes for the caps to drain before working around the bags

i can figure it out, i just dont want to have no dash for 2 days, especially now when i dont even have to take it off for the install im looking to do because my *** is too broke to buy what im gonna mount up there... but nevertheless i digress, the moral of the story is "why should i go through all that damn trouble of figuring it out when someone else already has?"
