Racing with 5 speed???
I've was wondering what is a good RPM to launch at with a 5 speed? I've been doing 3K.... I don't know if it makes a difference but I have a 02 EX with DC sports TCS and Injen CAI... Any other tips you would like to give me would be great.
for a race? 3k, you gotta be joking. you need to keep the tac at like 4.5-5k and then drop, wait till you hit almost redline then pop second so it barks in second and then keep doin the same thing. also you might want to double clutch it. -inspectaDeck
Are we gonna have to discuss double clutching again.......?
there is NO reason to double clutch any car made in the last 15 years AT LEAST, probably more, for one simple reason: synchro-mesh gears. If you want more info, e-mail me @ evanb@counsel.NOSPAM.cc (just remove the "NOSPAM."..... duh...), or PM me or something, 2x clutching has been discussed multiple times here......

I don't ever rev the car before I launch. When the light hits green, I hit the gas hard and let the clutch out to the engagement point and basically keep it floored and about 4k the clutch is fully out and there is redline.
What exactly do you guys mean by dropping the clutch. Are you saying that you rev to 4k and just let the clutch out?

look at it like this EX is a vtec engine which VTEC is kinda like a turbo it kicks in
at a certain RPM which is 5500 RPM so you want to around that area
trust me all i got is a CAI, Hp headers and a Hayame exhaust and i
be tearin it up
so launch at least 4500-5000rpm and youll tear it up!!!

So your tires will just sit there and spin,.....and the guy in the 81 pinto just smoked a 7thgencivic????
....
come on guys....have you ever tried this???.....
most anytime you go over 3,000 RPM's and drop the clutch your gonna spin,,,which leads to you sitting there.
double clutch.ahhh.....funny.

dumbest.
statement.
ever.
i agree you probably have to launch high for better times, but let's get serious here. there's NOTHING similar between turbo and vtec. vtec has a very distinct x-over with very little kick, whereas the boost spools a bit and at a certain point it straight up drives you back in the seat.
launch high, see if you can feather your clutch without toasting it (civic clutches suck). your goal is to make high rpms as fast as possible. a lot of wheelspin is bad, a little off the line is ok. just as long as you don't hook up and bog. since everyone is different, start off about 5k. if you can get going without bogging, and not a lot of wheelspin, you are probably right on. if you keep bogging, raise your rpm. nothing but hop? lower the rpm.

ok, yes i am a newbie, yes i did a search(found nothing), and i know youve discussed it already, but as a subscriber to 5.0Mustang(3 years) and Sport Compact Car(1 year), ive never read anything about double clutching, and its not a word used in my neck of the woods, so can someone please give me a brief explanation of this tactic, thanks
