Please read!-Static or Dynamic wheel balancing?

I had my rims mounted and balanced with a static balance. Static is where there is no weight on the outside of the rim. Dynamic is where the weight is on the outside and the inside. What do you guys have? With the static I still get a little vibration at 65mph. Do you guys just put up with the little bit of vibration? Maybe I'm being stupid I just don't want a weight on the outside.

As I understand it, you do not have to have the outside weights, plus they are also very ugly if you have alloys.
Mine have the stick-on type and are on the inside of the rim...can barely see them and there's absolutely no vibration.
I would suggest taking your car to a different place, as it sounds like the balancing was not done correctly.

Static balancing is just putting weights where one part of the wheel is lightest. This does not work as well as dynamic balancing where you balance along the circular portion and the rim widht portion as well.

We are lucky that our wheels have a large offset due to being front wheel drive. Since most of use tape weights, it is easy to put them inside the wheel. The installer can use a dynamic balancing machine and move the weights either towards the inside or outside of the wheel to achieve a good dynamic balance. Sure you will see a wieght at some point, but the outside lip of the wheel will have nothing on it to deter from the clean look.

Different shops have different types of balancing equipment. I would go to a place where they specialize in high performance wheels. You did not pay the same for your wheels and tires, so it would be logical that you would spend a few dollars more to get them balanced to a higher degree.

I originally had a high speed shake at speeds over 65. I finally took the wheels to a shop that specializes in performance wheels. They charged me 60 dollars, but offered a lifetime balancing and rotation. Better yet, the shaking was completely gone.

I have one wieght that you can see on the inside of the wheel, but I have looked at Porsches and they sometimes have to have some weights visible as well. Which is more important, seeing a weight on the inside or having a safer calmer drive.
