Cat converter
Cat converter
Is there anyone that can give me advice as to a cat converter to get, that is not more than 175, mine just went.. and i also need to know if xtune headers and exhaust is good enough to intensify my horsepower.. or if anyone is selling it
Re: Cat converter
i just bought a performance high flow cat. from megnaflow. it's not installed yet =(, still waiting for it to get here. but it ran me around $100 including tax. they also have a few universal stock size ones. just go to an exhaust shop and tell them you want a new one. they should have a selection. and don't go for a top end, the cat. is a mesh screen that converts (i think) carbonmonoxide to carbondioxide which is less toxic. as long as you know it's a decent one that will let you pass emissions get it. also if your car is an lx or dx your cat. is built into your exhaust manifold. if this is so it'll cost you more because you need to find honda specific parts. if you have an ex or si then your cat. is seperate, which is good cost wise. i only know about the ex cat.s so if you get one remember to get one with the oxygen sensor bunt hole in it. this is where your car's o2 sensor screws into and try to find a round one because they fit better with the stock heatsheild (some cat.'s are more boxy in shape) . also make sure you get the right size cat. pipe-wise, so it fits your exhaust and downpipe. (this next section only will help if you do have an ex or si) as for the header and exhaust almost everyone on here will say "there's almost no point on spending that kind of money on a D series for bolton's". however i put a k&n short ram intake on my car and noticed quicker response and torque with more passangers or up hills. it also sounds amazing. and i'm waiting for my cat. so i can put the exhaust system together with a megnaflow system i got used for $150, which looks almost mint. i agree that you shouldn't upgrade the intake and exhaust if you're doing it with new or brand name parts. go with a cheap ebay tube for your car model's intake $50 plus shipping and by a good cone filter like k&n or aem $28 plus tax but don't trust the ebay filter, a used exhaust if you can find it (the ebay ones can be cheap but some of their exhaust notes sound bad and you won't know ill you put it on), an ebay header $60 plus shipping (some on here hate them because they like brand names but honestly it's four pipes, as long as you get one with the o2 sensor hole in it you're good and to be safe keep your stock header if the weld brakes on the ebay. my buddy at work has been running one for like 6 months with no issues.) or don't but a header at all because it won't help much. the stock header matches the exhaust ports on the head plus it flows decently enough so there's not much for performance to gain, lastly don't forget a high flow cat. and downpipe most people just buy a catback and a new header. this means your running the stock downpipe and cat. with around 1.25 inch flow and your pipes leading back are 2.25 or bigger. the cat. will bottle the air so you won't realize the full potential. and since your buying a new cat. anyway might as well make it a matching highflow for the system you're getting. as for performance figures with all this, i don't really know. i've heard numbers form 2whp gained to 12. if i get 8 when i'm don i'd be happy. i've heard 5whp=100pounds of weight reduction. so 8 would make the car perform the same with a passenger as it does now with just me.
