Questions about Wiring Halos...

So I got my Anzo dual halo lights for my 02 Civic, but I've encountered a problem. I have two red wires in the back for the halos, but no black wire...

So I tested the wires by hooking them up to my battery and car frame. First try, the halos lit up. I reversed the wiring, thinking they shouldn't light up this time, and yet they do...

So now my question is, which red wire goes to which wire in the headlight wire harness? Obviously there are three wires that go to the stock headlight, but which red wire on my halos goes to the red wire on the harness and which one goes to the black wire on the harness? For some reason I heard wiring them to the headlights puts too much amperage to them, causing them to burn out faster. Yet every video I see, they wire them directly to the headlight wiring.

Also on a side note, should I wire them to the headlights (the wires with the three-prong connector on the end) or the signal/park lights (the one the connects way up top)? Essentially, I want my halo's on at night, and if I hook em up to the headlight wiring, they should be on with my DRLs too, correct? For some reason I heard wiring them to the headlights puts too much amperage to them, causing them to burn out faster. Yet every video I see, they wire them directly to the headlight wiring.

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

I'd wire them to the parking light.. That's how mine are, then again, mine are custom CCFL angel eyes that I stuck on my TYC headlights.. The parking light's always gonna be on when the headlight's on.

This video is parking lights only. I didn't turn on the headlight itself.

as for the wiring working in both ways, it sounds like they're not illuminated by LEDs, but incandescent bulbs instead. If you decide to use the parking light, red/yellow is the parking light +12VDC.

No LEDs, it's all incandescent. I just don't know why I have two red wires and not one red, one black.

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

Since it's incandescent it shouldn't matter which way you wire it, as long as it completes a circuit it'll light.

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

So when I hook it up to the existing wiring, just connect one to the original red wire and one to the black wire and it'll be good?

And you say to wire it to the signal/park light wiring? I always see people hook it up to the headlight wiring. You can hardly see the halos in the daytime anyways, so as long as they are hooked up to the headlight wiring, they will still be on at night, right?

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

Well, you can't turn on the headlights without the parking lights already on.. If you wanna just show off the halos, it won't be outshined by the headlights
It's really up to you how you wanna hook it up. I don't know about your 02 civic, but my 02 civic's parking lights don't turn on when I turn the car on.

And I'm just going off of what you said about hooking them up. You said they work both ways, and if what I know about incandescent bulbs is right, then you should be fine wiring it either way. So, yes, hook one up to a +12VDC wire, and ground the other.

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

Yea ok, I'll hook it up to the headlight wiring. I'm retarded when it comes to park light / drl / headlight / hi beam balh blah.

And you said they are brighter than the projector headlight themselves?

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

Nah, I'm just saying that if you wanted to show off the halos themselves, they might be outshined by the headlights (i.e. the headlights are brighter). Mine aren't because the CCFL rings I have are bright as ****. Hell, I could get away with driving at night with just my parking lights on

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

Oh I understand now. So I guess i hook one red to the power wire going to the park lights and the other red wire to the ground running to the park lights and it should work during the day when I'm driving and at night when the headlights are on...

I think?

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

I have the same lights for my 03 civic and I wired them separately to a switch so I can show them off without any other lights on Also I can have them on with my hids.. I disabled my DRLs tho .. It's all preference to what you want to see

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

If you want to do it my way all you have is a wire run from the battery to the inside of your car through the firewall and then hook that to the switch power then all you have to do is connect one red to the switch and one to the ground (body if car)

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

So we figured out which wires to splice into (we think). One wire with quick connect to the proper headlight wire and the other will be grounded to a bolt on the car body/frame. I'm assuming that will work.

Why does everyone say to wire it to the park lights though? Yet when I watch the installation videos, it says to wire them to the headlights, turn the headlights on and see which wire provides power, etc. etc.

If I wire it to the headlights, the halos will be on with the DRLs, the park lights and the headlights as well.

Dude, it's really up to you. Since it seems like you're dead set on wiring them to your headlights, just wire it to your headlights.

edit: Oh, and from looking at the wiring schematic, and if I'm reading it correctly, it seems like the DRLs use the high beam, so they [the halos] wouldn't be on unless you turn on your headlights anyways I don't have an 04-05, nor do I have DRLs so I'm shooting from the hip here.

I dunno why I assumed you had an 04-05.. lol. Nevertheless, DRLs still utilize the high beam

lol hence the username, 20_civic_02 lol.

Anyways, you won't be able to see them in the daytime anyways, so if I wire them to the park lights, they will come on regardless whenever I turn my headlights on at night.

Re: Questions about Wiring Halos...

Well they are finished. I wired them to the park lights. Didn't even need any extra wiring like the videos said. I just quick connected one red wire to the red/yellow and the other red to the black ground wire and they work just fine.

It was a bitch trying to get the passenger headlight to fit properly and it was also difficult getting the bumper back on. But it all worked out. I will have some pics up once I wash my car tomorrow.
