Removal of A/C Unit

The air conditioning in my '01 five-speed LX broke recently, and since I rarely used it in the first place and it's just added weight, I'm sort of curious as to how involved it would be to just remove the entire AC unit. Is this something I should try at home?

Re: Removal of A/C Unit

definately not. it needs to be depressurized, and there is a special way to remove parts otherwise they will have to be thrown away. alot of the stuff im sure you could sell if its still good, but have it removed professionally and tell them you want the parts in working condition. a/c doesnt weigh much either, compressor is only 12lbs or something. the r134a is extremely toxic if you get any on you or breathe it in.
