I have a 99 Honda Civic LX 1.6L. Recently it has been stalling while driving after the car is good and warmed up all power except electrical cut's out and I have to pull over and restart it. Most of the time it takes about 3 or 4 try's to get it started. The car is not showing any CEL's. I have replaced the main relay under the dash, and the distributor cap and rotor. I also tested the ignitor under the distributor and it tested good. Only thing left that I am thinking it is is the crank position sensor but I have read it takes a bit of work to get out and wanted to make sure that's what it is before I do so. I would think it would run a check engine light if that went bad but not sure.

SO ANY INFO ON WHAT IT MIGHT BE FOR SURE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED! PLEASE HELP A NEW MEMBER OUT! DAN

Are you at a red light when this happens or just driving driving driving and cut?

I had a loose wire on my ign switch and when I would hit a bump it would cut the car off and do the same thing. also my boy had a sticking fuel pump that would do the same thing. It would just kill the car. but his pump was also not priming all the time either.

I hate to say it but seems like the only thing to do is trial and error. Change things out or swap with a friend until the problem stops. Sorry bro. Good luck.

This happens just in the middle of driving, not while im stopped. It does not happen when I hit a bump either. Just happen's at straight smooth speed. This is why I think it's the crank sensor cause most sensor start malfunctioning when they heat up. But there is no CEL's which does not help me at all. Well thanks for the suggestion's. Any other helpful info you might have?

I can hear the fuel pump engaging, and smell fuel while starting so I would assume it's still working fine. It should not start at all if the fuel pump is dead. So I guess I will still try the sensor unless someone else has a suggestion?

ANYONE HAVE A HOW TO ON HOW TO CHANGE A CRANK SENSOR?

I have a pretty good idea on how to do it but it would help.

ALSO WHAT SIZE SENSOR IS IN A 99 CIVIC LX?

According to part's store there are two sizes in mm?

Does anyone know if the crank sensor is bad would it through a check engine light?

So according to my research if the crank sensor was bad it would through a CEL. So I am ruling out that for now. I just replaced the plugs and plug wires and it run's a bit better but still has the same problems. I wonder if I should just replace the igniter any way even though it tested good just in case they tested it wrong?

So I am still trying to figure this out so more help would be greatly appreciated. PLEASE!

did you find out what it was yet?? i am having the same problem... and i have been for over a year now. trust me, it WILL get worse... 3-4 trys to get it started will turn into 3 or 4 hours... NO FUN.
do you have a short ram intake? they can sometimes cause heatsoak, which will make your car shut off like you've described.. maybe a bad ignition switch?

My 86 crx si had the same problem. Once the car warmed up it ran horrible and stalled. Would restart after a few minutes. Ended up being the coolant temp sensor. Was still telling the ecu that the engine was cold even at normal operating temp.
