Hows it goin fellas. I normally post on a bodybuilding forum, some guys directed me here

here is the thread i made

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...#post497647571

I want to learn how to put suede on the interior of my car, and this looks like a good place to learn.

I hope this doesnt **** anyone off haha, i actually own a Hyundai Tiburon not a civic... but im definitely a civic fan

here is the interior and the outside

Interior looks fairly good IMO, all black leather everywhere. Since the outside of my car is a dark blue, im thinking a royal blue on the inside would look good.

(id love green but nothing else is green)

Here is the door panel im talking about

My quesation would green (imagine lamborghini lime green and black interior) look retarded?

also, does anyone know a good place to buy suede in say royal blue?

im reading this thread now

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/7...els-suede.html
and will follow his advice on how to do it.

Would appreciate any more tips. goof forum

Yea.. the forum is kinda hella slow nowadays..

Wouldn't be able to take better quality pictures of the cloth door panel parts, would you? I know on my 2002 Civic, it's just mounted with adhesive, and I can rip it off when I decide to "re-upholster" my doors.

damn..

are there any good forums out there where i can talk with people who know how to do this ****??

im about to go to walmart and try this on my door handles i think.

they are plastic and snap on and off, worn down already so its a good spot to practice on.

its curved though so might be wierd to get on there, might end up with a crease or two, and only half the handle pops off so ill only have the visible half done which sucks

Usually people just re-do the fabric where there's fabric and, if so desired, paint what's not fabric

If you get a nice stretchy fabric, creases shouldn't be an issue though

Definitely interested in this also.

Would that work for areas where its plastic where your putting the suede? like does it only work good on fabric or could one side be plastic?

Re: Whats up Civicforums.com! New guy here about to work on my car. opinions wanted

i got the fabric tape last year, i was a bit afraid of doing it in the winter but i let the door panel stay inside for a day before installing. so far its been almost 6 months and nothing has come off. its the tape from ben franklin for sewing, i think made by dritz? and its easy to take off and redo with different fabric if something happens (gets wet or whatever). the driver side i messed up a bit cause the first time i laid the fabric down wrong and had to pull it up. the tape is okay for several applications before it loses its stick, so i think it should be fine.

lol.

I just winged it, it looks OK but you can tell its not professional. I actually like the idea but not the wrinkle i couldnt avoid

See the top, the top part of the handle is rounded so i couldnt glue it down without a few wrinkles and that somewhat ruins it. oh well

i had to iron my suede otherwise it looked terrible with wrinkles. you need to just steam it tho from an inch away, do not touch the iron directly. i got most of the wrinkles out that way.

serious? is that After you glued it to the thing? or is that when your just about to attach it to something, you steam it and it stretches?

Re: Whats up Civicforums.com! New guy here about to work on my car. opinions wanted

mine is REAL lol. it is very stretchy too with or without iron, which makes it a bit hard to put on cause you dont want to stretch it too much. the ironing before sticking is only to smoothen the wrinkles. i got it for around $15 per yard at joannes. its the only grey suede they carry. you cannot use spray adhesive with real suede because it is very thin. even if you let the glue setup, as soon as you lay the suede down it will bleed thru and ruin it. and the softness goes away. my last set was fake suede which was more rigid and had a harder backing so glue could be used. but the quality sucked and over time it got messed.

so whats best then??

should i go with micro suede?

I bought my blue suede for 23 $ a yard at jo-annes also. (it was on sale 50% off)

ill call and see if they can look up the sale in the computer to tell me if its real suede or not

usually it will either say suede or faux-suede on the label. i like the real thing because the patterns look nicer, altho some its hard to tell the difference. if you want to use glue then you need to make sure it has a solid backing (if you hold it up to the light, you should not see any light coming thru).
