Locking the Driver's Door Automatically
Does anybody know of a way to get the auto door lock on the driver's side to also lock the driver's door? I know about the "pull on the handle while pressing the lock lever" trick, but I just want to hit the auto door lock and get all the doors to lock? any ideas? it sure would be nice if the civic would unlock all the doors by using the key just like it will lock all the doors . . . thanks.

I've been thinking the same thing recently, actually. It's little **** like this that makes you remember it's an econobox. How stupid is the pull handle protection anyway? Why does pulling that handle guarantee that I have my keys in my pocket? Once it becomes second nature, it's just as easy to lock your keys in the car. When I had the door apart I wish I would have thought about looking into this, but I can't see it being that difficult to fix. Probably some catch somewhere that only disengages when the handle is pulled, and would probably be easy to remove.
Oh yeah, why no lock switch on the passanger side? Anything to save $5.

hell yeah. Every f**king time i go to unlock my door it bugs me so much that our car doesn't unlock all the doors. Its a pain in the a$$ when you forget to unlock your doors and your friends are outside waiting for you to unlock the doors

Do what I did and just invest in an alarm with the auto lock/unlock feature, it works on all the doors. Fairly cheap and why wouldn't you want a little added protection on your car???

i thought 2002's came with remote keyless entry? guess not, huh? (i've got a 2001 and i had to buy a separate car alarm-remote keyless system like sweetride did... i agree, worthwhile investment, then definitely you wont lock your keys in the car if you use the remote keyless every single time)

My2K1 LX Sedan (Canadian) comes with remote/keyless entry standard.
i have a problem with having to open my driver door then unlock the passenger door ...i like the previous gen civics, where you hold the key in the unlock position and it unlocks all doors from outside...

<< Yeah why didn't they put a unlock button the passenger's side too. That's just stupid. >>
yep, my wife is always whining about that! Always telling me to take it to the dealer and have them put one in.
I don't think it was a matter of saving money, but more of a safety feature. Its the same reason why you have to hit the unlock button twice to unlock your other doors. Basically, when you unlock your doors, you don't necessarily want all the doors to unlock. Just the drivers door. That prevents someone from jumping in one of your other doors. A lot of car jackings/kidnappings happen like that in parking lots. Not saying I agree, just the reasoning that Honda used.

You are correct sir!!! Thats the exact reason, my Dad's Passat will only unlock the passenger doors after he turns the key the other direction after the drivers door unlocks.

Has anyone had an alarm/door lock installed? Which one did you get? I'm thinking of doing the Honda keyless entry myself - has anyone here installed it? Thanks
