radiator cap

94 civic dx 1.5 engine. mt.

How do i know which radiator cap i need? When I talked to honda earlier this week about getting a new one, they said 2 radiator manufacturers were used for that generation civic. cap costs $21. I refuse to pay that much for a cap unless absolutely necessary.

if i go to napa how would i know which cap i would need or what is compatible with the radiator that i have? Would a generic cap work?

Re: radiator cap

It doesn't matter if there's 2 manufacturerers, either one will fit. Do you mean two different types were used? In that case, check majestic honda under radiator.

Re: radiator cap

under majestic with vin number typed in, it lists both Toyo and Denso radiator caps under the radiator section. I assume it wont make a difference and i have nothing stamped on my radiator that i could find to identify manufacturer.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just going to get the denso and hope that it doesnt matter.

Re: radiator cap

Well, I can't be certain since certain items like the A/C pump have 2 manufacturers because there are 2 different designs. (now that I think about it) Can someone confirm? What you should check up on is if your vehicle had 2 different radiators. If it didn't, then there's only one cap. Check different years for your generation vehcle and see if there's a different radiator number.

Re: radiator cap

Seriously though, you can get a radiator cap anywhere. I buy oem all the time but in this case it's not worth it. Napa probably has a cap made in japan or something.
