hey guys, i just bought a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid. i would like to know whether its normal on CVTs to roll backward on slight inclines. it feels like its in neutral until i give a little gas. in other words if you are driving behind my you will assume im driving a stick-shift. i just changed ATF and i found some metal shavings in the drain plug. other than that car drives excellent. thank you.

its normal due to the low idle speed (for fuel economy). that happens to my 2002 gasoline civic too. unless the ground is perfectly flat, it will roll back. i usually use the ebrake to keep the car from falling and just give it a lil gas.

with the hybrid, isn't the engine off at a stoplight? in other words, the car isn't generating any torque until you push the accelerator. anyways, i'm sure the car isn't rolling back much compared to what would happen in a manual.

true, in many cases the engine will shut off. but there are conditions where it stays on, maybe on a sloped surface. check the rpms next time and see if its at 0.
