I never figured out why people blacked out headlights meant to go on silver cars. Whats the purpose of it? It looks tacky as hell.

looks nice, black and silver is not tacky lol at least not to most people. lenses do look a bit foggy or maybe its just the pics. if not they would look much better if you buffed it out. usually some meguiars plastx is all it takes to restore them to clear.

I just actually bought a set of headlights from a local guy. his ad said they were stock but when he brought them over they were already blacked out. i bought them yesterday and put them on today and they make my car look like courtney love (coked out ***** with too much mascara).... but best part was he had way better bulbs in there and i got everything for 50 bucks. but i was actually buying them with the intention of opening them up and painting them ssm to match the car. anybody else try this?

i found out if you go to any bass pro shop or any boating supply store they have the same **** for like 5 dollars. Its basically a creme they use to wipe salt residue from boat windows. does the exact same thing for much much less. they have it at wallyworld too in the boating camping where rednecks buy their clothes with their shotguns isle.

as long as you keep switching to finer sandpapers, then a rubbing compound, then the polish, it should turn clear. you also need a sealer tho to keep it from fading again. wolfgang plastik surface sealer is my fav. ebay has some good restoration creme that takes out natural oxidation without sanding. technically thats the best way to go because you are not hurting the plastic. but it costs around $40.

+1 on the Plastx and buffing. There will be a noticeable improvement.

if you get a cheap electric buffer and do some buffing with turtle wax rubbing compound, then again with plast-x, it should work to clear them. it will just take forever by hand which is why most people resort to sandpaper. the rubbing compound is abrasive but its not as harsh as sandpaper so it does take a while.

in which case, there is NO chrome in his headlight housing.
so then it goes from silver to black to shiny plastic then? i think that looks better than going from silver to shiny plastic to more shiny plastic.
and that leads to only one conclusion, the blacked out headlights kick *** and shiny plastic is gay. black 1 shiny plastic 0

how can plastic be chrome? I thought chrome was the electroplating of a thin veneer of chromium onto an underlying metal? But the headlight housing and reflector are plastic.

e-thug? haven't heard that before. still your links are quite interesting, however the actual definition of the word chrome implies that it is a process performed on metals.
In either case, silver and black work. It works for the Oakland Raiders and it works out for silver hondas.
