Installing Headers, Purchasing

I'm looking at Purchasing headers for my 03 honda civic lx manual. and i can't find where to buy any good inexpensive ones. they have the d17 bolt pattern witht the cap right under the header infront of the engine. do you think i should get a new cap too?

im guessing that cap=cat. and yeah your catalytic converter is built into the manifold. change it and you will no longer pass smog and your car will smell like rotten eggs all the time.

Re: Installing Headers, Purchasing

ebay meagan header that's what i have its well made and serves its purpose .what it boils down to is tubeuler piping so it really makes no difference between exspensive and inexspensive headers.as for the cat you have some options you can buy a o2 cell eliminator weapon r makes a good angled one to clear our alternaters but is illegal .or have a hiflow cat welded in to your exhaust extend your o2 wires and have a legitimate setup.

uhh I think you got that backwards the car will smell like rotten eggs/sulfur with a cat on it especially if you have a cat that hasn't been used in a couple years that has just been put on. If you get rid of the cat it doesn't smell the only thing you might smell is gas if it is running too rich.

Last time I had to put a cat back on the car it smelled sooo bad. I was so happy to get that thing back off and get back to my straight pipe.

yeah im pretty sure a car smells worse with no cat when you are breathing all the wonderful combustion by-products. at least thats what happened with my old car that had a hollowed out cat (basically a straight pipe).

i think you got it backwards, having no cat will always make your car smell. Having a cat will not make your car smell like rotten eggs or sulfur unless when you took it off and all this crap got into it.

yes it does smell worse. I'm fully tuned and it smells.

the point of a cat is so you don't produce too much smog and so it won't smell.

There was something wrong with your car, because I have a header, cat delete and catback exhaust and my car doesn't smell any different from any other car on the road, I also have 2 other friends will cat deletes and their car is just the same.

Re: Installing Headers, Purchasing

your not tuned right if it smells. If you are tuned right it doesn't smell.

I do not have a cat on my car and it does not smell at all. A fresh cat one that has not been used before or one that has not been used in a while (and had a chance to fully dry out) when put on will smell like rotten eggs I had to throw the cat back on for the stupid safety inspector back in January cause he was being a dick and trying to get me on **** that isn't in the VA safety inspection. I forgot to tell I had a 6 puck clutch and he was having a very hard time with the car lol. Anyways the 3 days that the cat was on the car the whole car smelled like total *** smelled like I had a pack of rotten eggs in the back seat. It started to go away the more I drove the car but my car does not like cat's so off it went, never to go back on again.

The reason you get the sulfur smell is cause of the chemical reaction in the cat cause burnt gasoline does not smell like sulfur. once it run though the cat then it will smell like sulfur due to the chemical change. a regular stock exhaust even though you can barely smell it has just a hint of sulphur smell to it if you were to get down and smell it at the tail pipe.

If you do not have a cat on the car and it smells here's a little hint you are probably running way too Rich! and you need to lean that bitch out. these are eco motors they can run pretty lean

It is called a "header" when your car only has one. How many times does this have to be beaten into people? Even if you dropped out of school you know if something is singular you don't throw S's on the end of it. That is like saying your girlfriend's vaginas smells like trouts.
