okay im about to change my spark plugs
okay im about to change my spark plugs
I have a 03 civic ex sedan
plugs are bosch platinum 4030
couple Q's
1 do i need to change vtec fluid if so where what how
2 whats the best time to change plugs before or after oil change?
3 if I am switching to synthetic oil on my next oil change does that affect anything?
4 what should I be extra careful of if im doing this for the 1st time (besides letting something fall in the engine, and not using anti seize lube)

Re: okay im about to change my spark plugs
1. throw away bosch plugs, they dont belong in a honda
2. buy some NGK v-power plugs and install
3. tighten them no more than 20 ft/lbs
4. do NOT use anti seize, do not lose the coil pack nuts

X2 With what Gear said NGK is standard for Honda's. Everything else is just a gimmick.
There is no such thing as VTEC fluid.

what denso iridium are the best for honda.bosch will make your car run like ****.it doesn't matter which you do first oil or plugs.and it will have no consequences to switching to synthetic unless your car is burning oil now.and the v-tech fluid has to be changed by a honda dealer call and ask for a qote

Re: okay im about to change my spark plugs
with anti-seize you will not be able to torque the plugs properly. and spark plugs never get stuck anyway so its not needed. with 20 ft/lbs of tightening force, they should never get stuck. also do not change the plugs when the engine is hot.

Re: okay im about to change my spark plugs
denso iridium ftw if you can afford it. otherwise copper ngk is good too. denso has smaller center electrode that requires less power to make the same spark. so electrical system does not work as hard.

wire harness? you mean the spark plug wires (assuming you have 2000 civic or below)? yeah its a good idea to replace em if they look old. the carbon inside breaks down over time.

Re: okay im about to change my spark plugs
Shouldnt always go according to how they look, lol my dad does that.. but really resistance is key
Re: okay im about to change my spark plugs
make sure you set the gap correctly. im guessing you dont know anything about gapping spark plugs, since someone talked to into believing you had vtec fluid. :/ i believe the gap should be 44
Re: okay im about to change my spark plugs
Again, you dont need them, and you wont feel a difference, the thing with iridium is that they can hold a hotter spark. Iridium is not a strong metal like platinum, but platinum has a lower melting point PER-SAY than iridium, which is why most people who run turbo chargers run iridium. There really isnt a smoother difference, nor will it make your car any faster, the only thing it will do is burn a whole in your wallet if you have to change them every 30k to 50k miles. Also i recommend using a small amount of anti-seize, just a dab will do.
