Rep Power: 0 Semi-Basic Engine Swap Help
I bought a 94 Civic DX about 2 months ago for commuting (40mpg vs 14mpg Jeep). The car ran excellent, shifted smoothly, and just floated down the freeway. Long story short, my 1.5 non-vtec crank keyway broke and jerry rigging didn't work. Rather than buying a $1200 crank from Honda, I bought a 1.5 vtec-e and ECU off a guy with the same generation Civic. I'm not looking for power, I just want to get it back on the road. I couldn't find a decent priced 1.5 non-vtec for a straight swap.
Heres my question. What do I need to do to my car for the swap? I heard since its a same generation D15 swap, I only need to run 2-3 wires to my ECU for the vtec; everything is a direct bolt in like mounts and tranny. But, looking around online, I keep seeing things like new wiring harness, distrib, transmission, half-shafts, etc. Is this a pretty basic swap or am I way off in left field? I am mechanically inclined, I've done 2 engine swaps on my other cars, but its always been a direct swap and I've never done a Honda.
I would GREATLY appreciate it if somebody would let me know if there will be more than...
1)Remove old motor
2)Install new motor (no fabrication or other needed parts)
3)Install ECU
4)Wire up 2-3 wires for V-tec
5)Double check bolts, connections, and top off fluids
6)Hello sweet 40+ mpg!
I'm sorry if this is a thread that pops up a lot. Again I'm new to the civic family and I have done a lot of internet searching but can't find anything for a 1.5non to a 1.5vtec. Thanks in advanced!
