i floor it every chance i get? yea yea, i know it sounds dumb, but because the car doesn't have that much hp and tq, i find myself giving the car a little too much gas, i usually go over 4000rpm before the car shifts, just wondering if that is considered abuse and how much the engine can take? i know honda engines are great, so i think an NA, non modified engine should last a good 10 years or so.

If you keep it at around 3,000rpm when you shift and sometimes go up to 4,000 then I think the engine will last up to 15 years. The higher you go the sooner stuff will start to wear out. Don't know the exact numbers. I don't think anyone does. We had an '87 Honda Accord that survived till '01. The engine was still going strong too. It all depends on how hard you drive and on how much you take care of your car.

well, i dont really floor the car, i just give it a bit too much gas, so the rpms kinda fly, other than that, i dont abuse it, and my dad told me(regardless of what i have heard of what the manual says) to do oil changes every 3k miles, so i know that the car is getting good care. i was just wondering how the engine lasts, but i might be selling the car in the near future, i need more speed!

p.s. the civic is a great car, i picked it, i could have had a sentra se-r(auto), but i chose the civic, great car.

I compliment your dad on his oil change times. If you're gonna run the engine like that, you'll have to change the oil more frequently. I do it a lot, too. But it's hard to determine the future of your car like that cuz every car is different. In the future... perhaps you'll have the parts to build up the engine so it can last longer. It's your car, have fun.

P.S. Skyrocketing the RPMs doesn't use THAT much gas, but you'll get the best mileage keeping them @ 3000RPMs... at least the last part is what I learned today.

lol i honestly DONT want to know how long my car will last me the way i drive it heheh. I already have 30k miles on it, and its about a year old. plus i go to about 6k RPM most of the time, unless i'm in a chill mode. so yea plus i love using the automatic shifting hahaha cuz i am used to driving stick shift, but since i commutte hella miles my parents bought my auto i think imma screw up my tranny before i blow the engine up hehe j/k. i dunno but ya hondas are great

hahah, i freakin hit the rev-limiter all the time... i know it sounds bad, but i just love the feelin of having that lil power...especially the sound that my intake and my exhaust make.... ahhh, who cares, the sooner that engine dies, the better. either i get new from HONDA, or a swap in a better engine... im not entirely worried about it! thats all i got to say for now...

hondas are great but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD be nice to your engine

the D17 is a piece of engineering but the rings, conrods, boss pins, valves, timing belt, are not designed to go to 6000 rpm every, single, time, you, shift, the car. This is exactly why as a 21 year old I never buy used cars from people under 30.... so many d16 powered previous gens let out there blue smoke between shifts, and though I love the smell of oil smoke (2-stroke racing youth) i know someone was not being nice to that baby. Be kind, treat her like the 16 year old christian babysitter you finally got to go on a date with you, be easy the majority of the date but its okay to grab some breast every so often....

I change my oil every 3-5, and i floor it everychance i get too. If it breaks, I guess i'll have to make a DIY on an engine rebuild!

I say drive the car the way you want to. I bought mine to enjoy and when this one wears out I will buy something else. These engines are made to be driven somewhat hard. That's the only way to get any power. I think you would really have be hard on it big time, to wear it out before 150k or so. But like I said, you bought it to drive, you pay for it, so enjoy it.
