Problem with trim, please help!

About 7 or 8 months ago I decided to tackle the job of painting my interior trim. It turned out great but my problem is this. After popping out the center peice with the stereo part and putting it back in the lower left had side seems to stick out a bit. I think it might have been like that before but does anyone know what I can do to get it to sit flush again???? My next question is about the paint. It looked great but now it has chipped a bit ( I didn't know about the clear coat) I am thinking I might pull it all back out again and repaint it but is there anyway to remove the old paint to get a fresh start? I am worried that it wont look as good if I just paint over it the way it is.

Thanks

Also anyone that may have already repainted theirs can tell me how it turned out???

you used a screwdriver to pry out the side thats now sticking out huh?? yup i did that too and it does stick out a little but can't really notice it...as for repainting it i did it again too because of no clear coat...all you have to do is take out everything again sand it down with extremely fine sand paper until all the paint is gone then sand it under water to smoothe out the trim pieces...let it dry then primer, paint, and clear coat it once again...sanding it perfectly smoothe takes a long time you might get frustrated but eventually it'll turn out nice...

Thats why it bothers me, I never pryed it out with anything. I read the DIY and I really didn't want to F*** it up!

I think when I pull it out to repaint it I might see if there is something I can tie to the back or something????

What sand paper should I use? and sand it until all the paint is gone? what about the vents where you cant really get in???

i had mine blue then repainted silver.. man,,... sanding is a biatch.. i think i sanded to hard cuz i got mad and now some of it feels lumpy.. im gonna redo it again.. (3rd time).. silver is hard to do becuase its light and u can see all the imperfections..

anyone know how much it would cost to do at a shop? 2 vents.. center peice.. center column.. door handles.. gauge bezel?

well in our right hand drive cars.... our trim is the mirror reflection of yours...
check for the hazard light loom, which is supposed to sit in between the two vent pockets, that they are not fouling the vents.
check the looms of the a/c control and the fan speed selector loom that they arnt against anything unnatural. ie. the pocket under the cd player.
and when you put it all back together, make sure the metal clips are sitting in the right place.
i wuz gonna paint, but then uni/college started...

i used fine 150 grit sand paper and sand it under water so it'll be smoothe and not lumpy...takes a long long long time to do the whole job perfectly and yes i got pissed off sanding it too and you gotta primer, paint, clear coat it...leave for an hour to dry...yup set a whole days work if you plan to do every piece over...its a bitch...
