Question about AEM Cold Air Intake
Question about AEM Cold Air Intake
I have a 2002 LX Sedan,
I want to put in the AEM CAI but i have a few questions.
About how much HP will i gain from it?
How easy is it for someone who all he really knows how to do on a car is change the headlight bulbs and the air filter?
Will it help gas milage or decrease it?
Thanks

It's an easy install. Basic hand tools is all you need. No real power is gained from it, 1-2 hp... maybe.
The intake will be a little more aggressive sounding.
Gas mileage may improve slightly.

When I installed my AEM SRI I felt a bit better throttle response, definately gives an aggressive sound (which increased when added magnaflow cat-back exhaust), and my gas milage went up about 4-5 mpg after everything (when i wasn't stomping on the gas pedal)...
I have a AEM V2 which is similiar (short ram rather than cold air). I like it. Simple mod and good instructions make for a very easy install. I also saw a diy on it here once too. Search and you will find it.
Crack kills... But then again... So do I...

Short of having a nice little sucking sound I haven't noticed any real difference. I also have an AEM V.2 short ram intake. Was actually one of my first mods that I ever did. If you can turn a screw driver you can install the intake. They come with really in depth car specific installation instructions that make it a breeze to install. Have fun and best of luck...
Thanks, so what is actually better than? The Short Ram, or the Cold Air?
If the cold air is pushing in "cold air" wouldnt that be better for the engine?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, my car knowledge is verrrrry limited.
Or does the Ram push more power or the cold air intake?

I prefer the cold air intake. Here is what I found:Cold Air Intake:
PROS: Since its farther away from the engine it get colder air wich carries more oxygen thus creating bigger explosions in the engine thus giving more horse power. Makes less noise.
CONS: Since its a longer pipe it takes longer for the air to get to the engine, since its closer to the ground there is a risk of getting water into the engine causing it to stop.
Short Ram Intake:
PROS: Smaller pipe so air response is faster, almost no chance of water getting into engine.
CONS: Since it is closer to the engine it heats up when the car is at a stop and delivers hot air with less oxygen molecules causing the HP to go down. ExTREMELY noisy.
Check out www.aempower.com, they have dynos, but one is way off it says like 10hp gain wich is B.S. V2 is nice and easy to install, or short ram.
I have a m/t, and the install was hell for me. It would have been easier if I had the power tools that were needed. I had to remove a bolt from the transmission, and so I had to bring my car to my friends house who had air tools.
I would say power gains were very minimal, if ever, my car is slower in the start, but it becomes easier to reach higher speeds, im guessing because of more hp, less torque. the thing I did notice is that at night time, my car feels like it wants to go fast now lol. guessing because at night time, there's a lot of fresh cold air settling on the ground.
bought mine for 280cdn, i don't think its worth a cent more
