Where can I mount 3 amps out of the way?
Actually it's 2 amps and a computer that looks just like an amp. I want to bolt them to my car somehow since my insurance covers anything bolted to my car. And I want them out of the way so I can put a snowboard and groceries in the trunk as well. Any suggestions?
I was thinking about making a 3 foot bench and welding it to the underside of the rear deck so the 3 amps will be hanging from the top of the trunk. Not from the trunk lid, but just inside there. I also want it to look okay for car shows, not butchered. How much do you think 3 amps would weigh? Think a metal bracket hanging there would support them? I'd also like to be able to remove the computer in a few minutes if I ever needed to do troubleshooting or testing of some sort. I've never fiberglassed before, maybe I'll get into that at some other time since I don't have a grinder right now.

Ill start off I guess even though I dont know too much but about this topic but I am pretty familiar with the car. You could try two under the seats and I dont know how that computer thing looks like or what its meant to do. I believe that the amp shouldnt be connected more than a couple feet from the speakers otherwise you start to get interference. Other than that, it really sounds like you should get some custom set up done. Also, check this diy, http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=217405
it gives you a project to start with and you could chape it to your needs, as you can see, theres a ton of you on the left side to put an amp, so theres probably just as much room on the right side. Good luck. Btw, go to the i.c.e.(in car entertainment) & electrical forum...a lot more information for your needs in there.

I figured it'd be better under DIY but someone can move it if they wish. I'm going to get started on a design for a rack bolted up under the rear deck. Not going to build anything yet though, just want to see how it would work. I think I'd have it so the base bolts up to the pieces welded on, so I can unbolt it, pull it down, and remove any amps I want, or the computer for troubleshooting, and then bolt it back up.
Crack kills... But then again... So do I...

Good luck on that one. Remember that wherever you put it, your amps and computer need to be well ventilated(sp) or have several fans directly on them to prevent over heating and the possiblility of a car fire. With that said, the only place that I can really think of to be out of the way would be under the floor of the trunk. Remove your spare tire and mount them in there. What are the sizes of the amps and computer?

You might want to look into my set up. I have a amp wall built where the amps are in between the wall and the back seat. And I have full accesses to a full sized spare tire and still enough room to "haul" objects around. Here are some pics....

Hope that helped a little...

i love it. that storage on the bottom is great for keeping the trunk looking clean while still carrying stuff down there. and the sub is mounted to the underside of the rear deck (the metal part). its secure enough that it will take robbers a minute to get it undone and easy enough for me to take out if i need the whole trunk. <-- last weekend i went camping (fvckin awesome by the way...) and it came out super easy...i hid the wires under the carpet and i had a clean *** trunk to load all the camping stuff up. amps weren't a problem at all (until the styrofoam ice chest broke somewhere along the 2 hour drive and flooded my trunk with ice water
. cleaned up easily though and just gave me a scare...didn't hurt the amps...) Last edited by manthatguysfast; Aug 23, 2006 at 04:08 PM.

what!! for real???!!
i hated the 1st set up. me and my friend were drunk 1 night and i wanted to do something to my car. so we took the stock cardboard trunk floor and cut a huge square in it so i could drop my sub box it in. lol. it was so ghetto!!
then some stupid *** shop made that ghetto *** baffle board for the amps and didn't even hide the wires!
how could you like the 1st one more!??!!?

I don’t know it just looks so "common" or "simple"
The second one looks professional.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
I don’t know, I rarely use my car for a grocery getter.
So I like the trunk to be full.
Again it just seems nice & simple.

oh see what yur saying...yeah the 2nd 1 looks more professional. i think it looks more simple though, because theres not all kinds of wires running everywhere or a baffle board blocking the access to the rear seats

but yaaaaaaaaaa...to the OP, you could do a set up like mine or texascivic's and it'd work just fine. i think we both are trying to say you can mount stuff on the sides of the trunk in the little openings and it wont take up much space.

Interesting, I like the wooden cutouts for the sides, and how they're carpeted. How are they secured to the car? And I like the wall facing the back of the seats more, doesn't that heat up the amps a lot? That's awesome, you can just put the backseat down for shows and put it up to hide them. Awesome! I'll do that if my computer doesn't heat up, and if I can mount a hard drive not parallel to the ground.

the sides are screwed into the metal using loooong self tapping screws. gotta drill in the right place though.
the only thing with the wall....i really doubt you're going to fit a snowboard in a civic without having the seats down. thats why i especially hated my baffle board...beside the fact that it didn't really serve its purpose of hiding the wires lol

First off thanks for the complements (If they were towards me). And "manthatguysfast" you have very nice set up as well my friend! But yeah that is the killer to my system set up is "hauling" long object and can't put the seats down. But I don't haul that much stuff around in my civic. But I made sure I had access to a spare.

the more wire you use, the more resistance. Therefore you want your amp to speaker distance to be as minimal as possible to maximize the quality of the signal

texascivic2k1, did you fiberglass your sub into your trunk? I really like your set up, since I've been looking to do something like this. Is your spare tire sitting on top of your old wheel well?

I found a guy in the local car club who's a welder and has a TIG machine in his garage. So I was over there last night and discussed some possibilities but there was virtually nothing I could do with 3 amps and still be able to fit the huge subwoofer box in there. The problem is I don't want to change the box because it's a Rockford Fosgate specific box so I'm worried about the acoustics changing.
