A different view on mods
A different view on mods
There are lots and lots of threads all over about how to get more HP out of your Civic. Turbo, nitro, 4-2-1 headers, all that is nice, but...
I'm more interested in the idea of doing something about the Civic's low end. I don't really give a damn about racing--I just want my little old '02 LX to have a little more fun playing in traffic.
What kinds of mods can you do to improve a Civic down low where I (and most folks) drive? What kind of sacrifices are you making (other than cash) when you make these mods?
Nice to see 7thgen alive again.

Remove electrical components. Remove your air conditioner, power steering, even stereo and alarm equipment
Weight reduction. Remove rear seats and any other equipment that weights your car down. Get lighter wheels - forged alloy 14inch with light weight tires

yup great info. get HVS-GT too, it works well. it hard to actually mod the engine for torque cause well its a hi rev engine by design. if you want torque, get a domestic
That is alot of work for no serious gain. Getting lighter wheels is a good idea for a little more torque and power, as well as better gas mileage.
Just save your time and money, and maybe do some research. And then if you are serious do something serious. Why waste $800 bucks on an exhaust for like 5hp and a sound?

low end torque you say?
Small turbo. All the low end you want.
There's very little you can do to shift the power band around, but stuffing 6 or 8 lbs in there at 2000 RPMs is about as good as you'll be able to do. No displacement leads to no bottom end.

^^Exactly. The size of the motor will seriously limit its na tq potential but things like a long tube header(which works for v8's) is suppost to give it more bottom end. Maybe a cam change but all I see is the turbo if you want some better numbers. Is it true you can adjust where the turbo kicks in almost like dailing in where you want the power?? I am retarded when it comes to boost.

Ya, what does a port and polish really achieve? Better flow, yes, but for numbers? Any thread with this info?
I would look into any engine building shop in your area. THey should be able to do it, but I reccomend doing some homework on the companies you look at first, just so that they don't fvck up your head or that they are a hack and smash outfit

i will videoa nd audio record the engine heavily before any mods are done by shops.s o i have the proof it was running fine.

To get the numbers you have to do alot, however if you want a good play-power, go with a sri, 2.25 in exhaust, pulleys, 4-2-1 headers and ground wires. If you need a little more, lighten the flywheel and up your compression.

i've tried both, the K&N is more for top end, maybe 2whp and sounds terrible the weapon-r feels good all around with good throttle response and it sounds alot cooler.
Oh well, I asked.
I've had someone suggest as SMALL turbo or a supercharger, but I don't see where they make a s/c for the civic. F.I. is an interesting idea because the LX motor doesn't have the compression ratio that the EX motor does, so you can boost more without blowing your head gasket.
On the other side of the coin, I'm trying to move a Civic, not pull a house.

small turbo is useless because it will either spool too fast and not create enough power, or just not create any power at all. A supercharger sounds nice but if your tryign to get good drivability, your gonna have to sacrafice alotta gas and it puts alot of extra strain on the engine for even daily driving because you are boosting so earlyon the powerband, everytime u get ont he throttle theres boost
A small turbo is not useless.
S/c do not boost as much as turbos so the strain would not be unbearable, but it does not matter cause they would be pretty useless on the d17. they do not even make one.
