re-tinting rear window?
i wanna know if its possible for the tint people to take off existing tint and put new back on without ruining the defroster lines. I don't like how they cut around the brake light so I wanna remove the deck lid and have em do it again. its been almost 6 months since i had it done so its not a fresh tint job.
It cost more for them to take off than to put on.
It is a real pain, nothing disolves it, you have to use steel wool or a razor blade. Getting the acutal tint off takes about 2 minutes, but getting the glue off it very hard. You cannot see it until you spray something on it. Steel wool really does not work that well. Windex is the best thing I have found to work, it is what shops use too. I tried strait amonia and vinegar with no luck. I think I might have tried something else too, cannot remember. I sprayed so much windex on and let it soak and then repeated the process, no luck. That stuff just turns to snot man, it is kinda gross. If you let windex soak on it for too long it will congeal back up again cause the windex evaporates.
edit: I used goof off, which only works a little better, if at all. I used it toward the end when there was only a little glue left.
I ruined my rear defroster, only like three inches across work, cause I just used a razor blade. BUT I did not scratch anything. I think using the steel wool would scratch up the glass, but it really was not working so...
You do not need to take rear deck out, i watched the guy do it he is my friends brother. I actually just went through this because of a ticket and they did not cut around rear brake light when they put it back on, but I wish they did LOL
the only reason I got pulled over was because that brake light was out and had been ever since I had been driving th ecar Doh! Rookie cop came out of nowhere and pointed the tint out to the senior officer, who could have cared less if that little bastard would have kept his trap shut.

It has a trick to use a plastic bag, but I am not sure if it used to get the tint or the adhesive. it also has to be sunny out, but It was not at all when I remeoved mine, dead of winter.
I think the cold may have actually helped me because the tint peeled right off the adhesive in one peice. He mentions two layers of actual tint, maybe he uses different stuff. IDK
The responses on the bottom of the page talk about tint that is different than what I have, the shop I got it from uses top of the line.
Also one guy talks about taking it off in minutes with a steamer, but IDK about that.
I would just leave it be man.

what about having them cut a small piece and put it on just for the brake light space or will it be obvious there is a cut around it.

anyway, an experienced tinter might be able to cut and place a piece of tint there without it being to noticeable, but theirs no way to get it to blend in perfectly

I know they charge $20 to remove the tint on front windows (they gave me a flyer that says front window tint is illegal and its not their problem, etc etc, and it will cost $20 to remove it.)
so my guess is removal of the back won't cost much... maybe $30.. who knows. ask them if they guarantee thier work, and if you have a problem make them pay.
Circuit city ended up paying twin city over $200 because they didnt get all my controls plugged back in and my rear defrost, ac, and cruise control wasnt working.
