Jack type......since I bent my O.E.M. when I had a flat 2 years ago (opened the rear door while the car was lifted)
I received a 2 ton jack kit from my girl for christmas but the damn thing does nothing...has maybe a 2" lift plate and the thing itself looks like a toy....I fgured a 2 ton would do the trick when lifting a quarter at a time....I was wrong

in summation.......What weight type would be best for the civic, 3 ton?

I know not to use bottle, and scissor unless in a pinch or mud.....floor jack is the way to go cept I can't just walk into my shop and 'lift' the 5 ton jack out of there....

there is no reason a 2 ton jack shouldnt support the civic. thats terrible if it didnt
2 ton jacks are good for a lot heavier vehicles than a civic!

i think you need to learn how to use it. i bought a 2 ton floor jack for $20 and it maybe weighs 10 lbs. i just carry it out and start jacking away. you know there is a release screw that needs to be tightened first right? also i had to take off the holder piece on the jack part or it wouldn't go under my lowered car.

I use a floor jack all day at work.....maybe I'm just used to 4 1/2 ton jacks that take no effort. I dunno. but what should the lift range be? cuz this one only goes up I think 13 1/4 inches and from the rear passenger jack point, it didn't even raise the wheel up....

oh, well it does take some effort it wont feel like pushing on a feather. mine goes up hi enough to get a jackstand underneath and the wheel off the ground by a few inches.

Blackpearl is an unknown quantity at this point
The stock one is designed for 750 kg (~1500 lb). They look therible; like a toy. So a 2 t jack I just fine.
I have one from Wal-Mart for $8. As I remember is a 2 t jack.
