Changing dials and switches colour

Am intending buying a new head unit, but only problem is that it illuminates green only, so will look out of place in my 2001 coupe, as the interior colour of switch dials etc is orange. Is it true that the saloon has green illumination instead?? So in theory would i be able to swap all switches, dials etc for the saloon version that illuminate green. Dont really want to modify my original stuff i got, because when i sell car i can easily swap everything back over.
The coupe and saloon are very rare in uk, so never seen a saloon inside, is the dash etc the same?? And what is the model number, i know the coupe is EM2, whats the saloon??? Thanks in advance, very appreciative UK member.

well you will need to take the dash pieces apart. but if you don't wanna mess up the stock stuff, you can try replacing the color films behind the buttons with some green transparent film cut to size. the problem is incandescent light puts most of its light out in the red portion of the spectrum. so green will be dimmer, but not as bad as blue. its worth a try. you can experiment by pulling off the **** on one of the dials, then use a screwdriver to pry off the round dial part. pull off the color film behind and replace with a green one. then put it back and see if you like it. then you can pull out everything else and do them the same.

why not just change the bulbs for suface mount or 3mm leds? they only cost about 49cents... [blue 5800 ones] ?

Get an alpine deck. I have a CDE 9845, I think gearbox has an alpine deck too - most models, if not all, have this "illuminite" system where you can change the backlight on the deck - one of the options is "amber" and it matches the amber color lights in my civic perfectly. I'm assuming when you say "orange" you mean the same amber color that everybody does.

Oh, and the head units are great functionally too, they don't just look spiffy. :-)

the biggest problem would be changing the speedometer and tachometer, instead of ripping out your gauges just get a different head unit that displays orange/red

Well have just sold my Pioneer 8600, but am wanting to upgrade to the Becker (do you have Becker over there???) 7945 sat nav, and this only illuminates in green. Was hoping that it would be possible to swap switches, cigarette lighter, and cluster etc for the saloon versions, as this has green illumination i believe. Then when i come to sell car i can easily swap everything back over. Only ever seen one saloon, and was droving other way, coupes and saloon are so rare over here, we get the butt ugly hatchback, so not sure if this possible or if even dash is same (saloon), but i think green illumination correct though. Cheers guys.

yea, I guess I should have prefaced that by saying you will probably save a lot of money in the end by just getting a matching head unit (like an alpine) unless you have some crazy soldering skills and the ability to change out those little LEDs, as well as confidence enough in yourself to take out your speedometer/tachometer console piece and change those LEDs without messing up your needles. If you mess up those needles, I believe a new console piece like that runs $500-ish. It's a risk I wouldn't recommend taking when you could just by a matching head unit.

-edit- Varner says you can get those gauge inlays though, I thought we had amber LEDs, varner's probably right, I think theres a DIY on here somewhere for putting those in - but once again don't mess up those needles!

Curiosity hit me:
What head unit is it?
And if the coupe and saloon are rare... what's available? 3 and 5 door hatchbacks?

Yes its the 3 and 5 door hatches we got over here, the real ugly ones apart from the type R. The head unit was a Becker 7945, but have bought the 7922 instead which is not as highly specced but correct colour.

sorry to jack, but what are the inlays that y'all is talkin about? I did a search on ebay and found nothing... I need a blue inlay and I don't have the time or the desire to rewire everything with blue LED's. I already did an 04 sedan cluster swap so I have blue gauges, but I need an inlay for the temp controls n such....
