What do headers do?
i see a lot of ppl saying the basic set up for any civic in, intake, exhaust and headers. i know what headers r, but what difference does performance ones do? bigger, more flow?
A header increases and eases exhaust flow by allowing more exhaust to pass through (bigger runners) and by easing the flow of exhaust gases; the exhaust isn't cramped into tight curves and tiny passages, but can flow through nice, sweeping curves, much like an aftermarket exhaust does.

think of it as the header = the fries

they go very well together.

What kind of increases can you expect with our cars? Is the flow of exhaust a limiting factor on a stock engine? I've seen some other threads about exhast where folks say something along the lines of "don't waste your money", etc.
I'm not trying to say that modding is not fun, on the contrary, the only thing stopping me from pimping my Civic out is that pesky money issue. I was just wondering what kind of gains one might expect for the money.

^^Dont expect to be fast in your civic without a swap, FI, or Both!! I/H/E in our cars doesnt yield much gain, it is more for personal preference!!! You might get 5-7 hp with everything!!
there was a member with an black 5 speed 01+ coupe that had i/h/e/flywheel/pulley and was putting down 110whp+ i believe.
not sure if he was an LX or EX though.
the gains arent great at all. its fairly noticeable but not impressive at all... definately not satisfactory. with an full exhaust set-up (header + catback), i think 4-5 hp sounds about right. however, the case is by adding aftermarketing exhaust/header (larger pipes), doesnt mean you only gain power, but lose some. therefore, low end is gonna reduce while high end power would increase very slightly.
