Is it worth putting performance in my civic?
Hi guys im new to the forum and im sorry if I should have done a search. I just figered this to be a way to say hi. I have a few Q's to ask, I want to know if you can really make a 2001 civic EX with leather interer, sun roof, and a 5 speed FAST? I mean dont get me wrong I have the Intake,Header, and Exhast like every one else here. But is it worth the power pulles, Plasma Boosters, and what ever else you can do to these cars. With the motor thats in these cars and the pounds in the body it just doesnt make a very fast car. Agin im not hitting on my car I love it and iv out ran a few cars with it but what I want to know is should I focus on speed or looks? But just so you know I LOVE SPEED!!!!
it's either swap in a k series motor or turbo that bitc* cuz that's the only way u wont lose power puting "performance" parts on a d17. Since d17 and performance are not possiable together unless u force it to be (FI)

I am against turbos..
Most members that are boosted have had nothing but problems.. Alot of the members that are boosted are now switching over to k20a's k20a2's

yes there is.
everyone who has broken their D17 has either done something wrong, didnt know how it worked, or did something stupid.
Everyone who is educated on how it all works, knows what to look/listen for, and **SERIOUSLY** kept their boost at a safe level has had no problems.
The problem with a turbo is that it is waaaay too easy to turn it up.

Read as much of you can!!!
Go to borders and read the five or six books they have on turbocharging and honda. They should have about three for each. Read everything on this site you can find related to turbocharging. Read magazines, even though they are more for fun!!!
To properely run a turbo you should know how to take it apart, so installing it will help.
By the way, Dezods kit is definitly the best!!!!
Also, turbocharging or swapping in a civic is not a waste of money, unless you think it is. With a d17 boosting 6-7 psi you will have a pretty fast car, especially for money invested. If you have the money then go for the swap, cause you can always boost that, unless you love your d17.

hey what do you guys consider safe boost? i mean i know a guy who just got boosted a couple of weeks ago on his del sol. and his clutch is already slipping. hes running 5 psi on stock internals. how high can you go on a d17 with stock internals? is it even possible?

I say trade in your vic and use the money that were going to use for turbo or swap and use it as a downpayment for a WRX. That's what I'm going to do. I love my vic, but 225 horses for a WRX with so much more potential for more horses is hard to resist.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing is to tune your kit as soon as you get it on or get any upgrades to the system.
Delsol can have a B16A stock, that motor can take alot of crap before blowing up. But every car will fail under more power with a stock clutch. OEM clutchs are ment for OEM power, if they put a "better" clutch in, it will be harder to press, hence they put a weak clutch in, but strong enough to handle OEM power.
There is a vendor on this site that can help with your turbo setup, his name is Dezod, look him up, good guy
